Define fixed?

if by fixed you mean "We'll start seeing Ps2 titles on PSN that we can buy" then yes.

I honestly didnt believe it when they said.. but wow. If they put up titles like Dark Cloud, and Rogue Galaxy I will love Sony forever...

No, in essence, these PS2 classics aren't being emulated, but rather they are the PS2 games "ported" to be PS3 games.

of course. Sony is God. they can do no wrong. it doesn't matter that the PS3 was backwards compatible in the beginning but that feature magically disappeared so they could later re-introduce you to "PS2 classics" for a premium price. all hail Sony, savior of man.

Completely agree with you. You're talking about the best selling video game console of all time here. These games need to be available to download.

Actually they removed it cause people whined about the price.

Dont believe that all you want, but to me that seems like the most plausible action - since they pretty much had a ps2/a half of one in the PS3.

@Faenix Then Sony should create a software solution to enable emulation and charge money for it. Leaving it out completely is quite honestly stupid.

@Faceless Troll PS3 is too weak for proper PS2 emulator. PSN PS2 games probably have emu with a lot of specific hacks for every game.

This would be great if they would 'port' the games I already own on disc.

...emulator or not, there is absolutely no excuse now as to why I can't play the games I already have.

You can, use your PS2 that you bought your games for.

Or if you're that obsessed about playing them on a PS3, go on ebay and buy one of the original models which feature the PS2 hardware on the PS3s motherboard.

@This Little Man Says His Name Is

People whined when it was too expensive and they outright said it did too much . Now they whine because features were removed. I paid my PS3 $700 at launch and it was totally worth it. It's still running 5 years later and it still plays PS2 games. I also have a slim and despite it's lack of features, it still plays blu-ray titles which is nore than these trolls can say for the xbox (which I also have and enjoy)
So all the whiners and trolls should just shut up and leave

@Faenix
Removing the PS2 BC was not done for cost-cutting reasons. I can't believe people still insist that was the reason. They are missing the bigger picture. It was done for profit boosting reasons outside of making the hardware cheaper.

Yes, it does make the PS3 slim cheaper, but not by much. If they were only worried about price, they could have had a higher priced PS2 compatible version of the PS3 for sale alongside a cheaper model that only played PS3 games. No, look around you people, the PS2 market was too big to allow the PS3 to compete in the years around 2006-2008. Today, GameStop and other stores have far less and less PS2 games. It won't be long before they're gone from those stores.

We've reached the point where some PS2 games are not readily available at retail like they used to be. So, Sony has craftily made some of you long for your old PS2 games the past few years by removing the feature from PS3s, and now is a great time for them to unleash the double dips and make you buy your old games all over again. Sony waited a few years to build up demand for forgotten PS2 titles and watched PS2 discs in retail dwindle as the PS3 library and adoption rates grew. It appears that they also waited to avoid the backlash of giving a big F-U to people who remember how great the 60GB PS3 was before they started hacking features all over the console. Sony used their time wisely and now, a few years later, it's time for you to buy your PS2 games all over again. As a 60GB Ultimate PS3 owner, I tried to warn people about this when Sony announced PS2 BC would never be coming back. I looked back at my old Joystiq comments and found I had posted a comment warning people about the return of PS2 games in digital form in August 2009.

I genuinely feel sorry for people suckered into buying games they already purchased previously. Those who never had a PS2 will enjoy the games now, but those same people should realize how they have been played the past few years by not being able to just stick a PS2 disc in their PS3 and have it work. I have a very large PS2 library that I can still enjoy for free with the 60GB PS3. The $600 has been worth every penny for all of the extra features. However I am dreading the day my 60GB dies, and I have to try and find (and pay a pretty penny for) another one of these amazing machines. Gone too soon but never forgotten.

Just so you're aware, your "spoiler tag" blends in with the rest of your text, and does absolutely nothing. You may be really-freakin'-excited about this, but if you're honestly concerned about spoiling stuff you should probably change your formatting in the future - or just refrain from posting the information at all.

Excited to see Costume Quest, at the time when it was 50% off for like $7.50 I didnt have the spare change. Happy I get to play it in full now. :)

Was honeslty hoping for 25-50% off crysis though, hopefully it has a 50% sale sooner then later.

"the PSOne port of Chrono Trigger"

Ive never played CT, even though i was four or five when i got a SNES. I was excited about this release until i researched and saw so many note horrible loading times. And I dont have a ds/3ds either so...im SOL I guess. I don't really do the emulator thing.

Oh well...I've always wanted to try Odin Sphere...

Any word on whether or not the PS2 games are running higher than 480i? I'm aware of the treatment SotC got and don't expect anything that intensive, but just wondering before I make the plunge and buy some games I already own.

They're not changed in any way, however they do support smoothing. For games with 2D art especially, like Grim Grimoire and Odin Sphere, the smoothing works extremely well. The PS2 emulator itself runs in 720p.

@Roto13 Yeah, pretty strange (greedy) that Square is charging the same price for an SNES game as Sony is for PS2 games... This was originally released as one half of a $40 game. At least give us the other half if you're going to charge us this way square!

Also, I would assume the loading times are much improved since it's not on disk now. I've played through FF9 and the loading times aren't bad IMO.

Fun Fact:

Maximo: Ghosts of Glory on ebay is $6.24 + $4.18 and up
Final Fantasy Chronicles is $21.46, divide that in half cause its two games and its 10.73.

Case in point: There the same damn price on ebay, and thats the lowest price I seen. Dont complain.

@Faenix Half the value of Final Fantasy Chronicles is not Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger for PS1is so bad it isn't even fun to play. It's not worth $5. It's certainly not worth $10 when the SNES-perfect Virtual Console version exists for $8.
