Why lie? It's ridiculous.

I was in the Navy, but I don't tell people I was a SEAL.

i think your confusing Special Forces with Covert Ops. There is a difference. even with the special forces, there is a whole separate tier of elite soldiers. Just look at the SEAL Team Six that killed Osama. they were Special Special Forces.

@eat it You have to submit a form to get someone's military record. It's not exactly a big deal for the military to tell you "Yeah, xyz was part of abc."

Now specifics and details will be trickier, but you can get the basics easily enough.

In a strange twist many members of their unit were killed in a helicopter crash soon after the Osama assassination.

Anyway the story reminds me of Chef Gordon Ramsay lying about his soccer career.

Vikings whaling on ninjas would be pretty silly. I'm picturing the vikings hunting Moby Dick on a longboat constructed out of ninjas all bunched up really tightly.
Vikings wailing on ninjas makes a lot more sense.

he is what they call a 'squint', an imagery analyst or imint, that is a far cry from special forces, and you can confirm if someone was or was not in special forces at one time. what you can't do is find out who is actively on special forces.

the guy sounds like a d-bag, he might have been asigned to a special forces attachment, and thus can wear a special forces badge, but you are not special forces.

btw, if someone tells you they were in special forces, that is usually a sign they were not. I have worked with some of these fine folks 'around about' the border of Iraq and they are the most humble modest people you will meet.

I agree. Knew this guy for a while and he never even mentioned he was in the special forces until we helped him move and a photo slipped out.

Same with people who claim in online multiplayer that they're MLG. Most likely they're not.

Well, hey. Valerie Plame's cover was as an energy analyst for Brewster Jennings & Associates, so for all we know "Imagery Analyst" is code for Incognito Asskicker. Food for thought!

Oh yeah, well I was part of a crack commando unit back in 1972. We got sent to a military prison for a crime we didn't commit. Of course we promptly escaped, and we now work in the greater Los Angeles area, primarily as soldiers of fortune, helping out the poor and unfortunate.

Next thing you'll tell us is Dennis Dyack isn't really a mutant. Since when does being in the special forces make you an expert on how to make a game? I bet you would find a lot of lies on resumes in the industry if you actually looked. How many people have Goldeneye on their resumes, for instance. Probably find a few that were tangentally involved but have that shit front and center.

I have known a couple compulsive liars in my time. One thing that is common to lie about is military service for some sort of elite or covert agency. I think they do this for a few reasons. It is almost impossible for regular people to verify. It is very believable to most people who have ever seen an espionage movie. The chances of actually meeting someone who was really involved with the organization they claim are very very low.

He didn't completely misrepresent himself. The command he worked at is special forces, however he deals with imagery. I can't go into specifics, but I'm sure everyone knows what a camera is.

Um is there really any way to prove people weren't in the special forces? The who's who of special forces seems like something the military would be wise to keep secret.

Sadly, people claiming to have been in the military but really weren't is starting to become rampant. I have known of several people getting jobs because of doctored or non-existent military service.

Just about every soldier I know wears a ranger tab, I think you can qualify for it but not actually be assigned to a ranger unit or something. But who knows, the army is weird, it's always our navy guys getting shit done or rescuing the army "special forces" when they get in a fubar situation.

Also, look how fat that guy is, that is if they mean the computer guy, there's no way spec ops guys let themselves go like that.

However to give him the benefit of the doubt, he may have been attached to a spec ops unit as support, meaning he'd train and go on missions and stuff with them.

You don't have to be a seal to be attached to a seal team, you can be the guy who maintains and sets up their comms, in fact one of those was shot down in that helo a few months back.
