oh, hey look someone can't read the article. it says the issue is with the game, not the Xbox. but I guess JC can't come up with a better title that isn't flame bait. unless i read it wrong, this doesn't cause the XBox to become inoperable, just the game.

Yay for the days of old when a game had to be a 100% complete and working before shipping.

Minor glitches are one thing, but could you imagine selecting something like 2 players on Super Mario Bros and that making the game inoperable. Course, that might have been par for the course for poor underappreciated Luigi.

I had a problem with GoW3 also, but not this one. I played through campaign and finished the game. I then redeemed a 30 day XBLG card so I could play multiplayer, and logged in to Live. The next time I started GoW3, the game downloaded an update (which is obviously normal and common for a lot of games). However, when the update was finished installing, it corrupted my completed single-player game. It then told me that I had to erase the save game because it was corrupted. So I lost all the work I put in to Campaign. Not the biggest deal, but still pretty annoying considering the time I put into it.

@OverDriven But you didn't, as you can load the campaign from the exact chapter you were on.

Let's get this in the right causal order:

Xbox 360s are failing at roughly the same rate they always are (like any electronic device) while people happen to be playing Gears of War 3.

Another illiterate imbecile. First, this is not causing a RROD. Second, this is causing a problem within the game, not a failure of the Xbox. It's funny how you're too stupid and too lazy to read, but you have no problem typing out your misinformed opinion.

That's weird. I didn't see him mention RROD anywhere in his post. In fact, he even likened the failures to "like any electronic device". I was unaware all electronic devices RROD.

How you are upvoted to 3 hearts is beyond me.

@Co Well he did use the phrase "Xbox360's are failing", that would lead us to suspect he thinks the systems are at fault here and breaking down.

I figured it might happen in splitscreen. Gears is so packed that the disc still spins sometimes even while it's installed. I never wanted to play splitscreen because I figured it'd be way too much strain.

I love my Xbox. Buts it's a PoS. even the slims are full of cheap hardware. But ive got. Far more playtime on my slim that I just bought last October than my ps3 that I've owned since launch.

Oh sure, fix this problem, but ignore the problems I was having. I had to trade in my xbox for a slim model just to get the game to work. Neither Epic nor Microsoft wanted to help me.

Funny thing is, this bug is not new, the exact same happened to Gears of War 2 when they applied the last update. I had my profile corrupted once, and had to reset it (And I was at level 100), and the same happened to my girlfriend twice. We were really hoping they would've sorted this problem out by the time Gears 3 rolled out, but from what they're saying in the forums, they didn't.

There are thousands of people complaining about that gears 2 bug on the official game forums too and basically the response to them was "there's a new game coming out, we're not patching Gears 2 again, sorry..."

That response is why i didn't buy gears 3 even though it looks to be an amazing game.

Now the exact same error is happening in gears 3... I feel both disappointed and vindicated at the same time.

I had something similar happen when playing splitscreen with my wife. It wouldn't let us join any games or partys, or anyone join ours, when we were both signed in. I found in the end that if I invited everyone to a party and then my wife signed in, it would work and we could play. Not the quickest way to join games though and it obviously only worked when playing with friends

Not that Epic isn't completely at fault here but:

What people really need to be asking is: How in the hell does something like this get through the Microsoft cert process? (and especially with regards to who the publisher is)

Somehow this news gave me the impression Epic knew it all along, couldn't figure out in time to release and released it anyway, using players as beta testers to figure out what the hell is going on. I for one don't see it as something THAT bad. I mean, before the "patch age" that people are complaining about, they'd have to push back the game release 'till they got this issue nailed. An issue with a minor part of the game would delay the whole experience. So yeah, I'm fine with that.

I never had it freeze up on me, HOWEVER after playing some spitscreen, I was not able to start any game mode. The game would attempt to launch the chosen game mode, but would fail. I tried clearing the cache and that fixed it.
