Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards returns in HD for the series' 25th anniversary in Q4 2012. This will be the second update of the bawdy 1987 Sierra adventure game classic, which went from 16-color EGA art and a keyboard interface to stunning VGA graphics and mouse controls in 1991.
EGM reports the update will be handled by Replay Games, with the assistance and blessing of series creator Al Lowe -- something that the most recent entries in the series didn't have. The game is planned for almost every PC, console and mobile digital distribution platform.
"I'm overjoyed to see Larry released from his digital dungeon after all this time, and be placed in the hands of someone who understands him and wants to see him, brought back to the forefront by people who love him and understand him," Lowe told EGM.
If successful, Replay Games plans to keep on doing the HD updates, and doing them well, working its way through the series' original seven installments (Leisure Suite Larry 4: The Missing Floppies will remain missing). Replay is also planning on new adventures for Larry Laffer in the internet age.

They're gonna have to censor this thing pretty hard to make it acceptable fodder for consoles. Maybe they'll replace the word 'boobs' with 'xboxes'?

Congrats, you just described Doom.
I'm all for old video games, I own half the catalogue on GoG (half of those on the original CDs), but to say video games are universally terrible today is just being ridiculous. There are great moments from every gen.

yeah, and halo is another doom clone, so there you have it.
I´m not saying that all current games are bad. hell, i enjoy wasting guys with a gun every now and then, but when a game has an amazing story the quality goes to the sky, that´s something that it was done many times in the old days, that´s why those games are still so admired, that´s something not a lot of companies understand in this times, but when it´s done like the old times the result is amazing, just look at arkham asylum.

I wonder if this game is going to be rated M, and show all the "nudity" the originals had.

Just as long as you can still have sex with that broad without a condom then die of AIDS in like the first 10 minutes of the game, I'm happy. ^sigh^ What a fantastic life lesson I received while being way to young for. Thanks, video games!! 20 yrs later and I'm stil clean!

It's worth noting that even the original Larry is an update of the text adventure Softporn Adventure.

It's the same character design as Leisure Suit Larry 7. It's far superior to the shit created for Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust, which Al Lowe had NOTHING to do with.

Ahh man, I hope they still include the age based questions at the beginning to prove that you were old enough. I loved the fact that they were questions based on historic events that were current enough for you to remember! Ahhh, pixelated bresteses...

Umm... yay? Is it going to be like Monkey Island, where you can switch back and forth between the classic and modern version?

I wonder if they'll do Larry 7 though, since that one was already pretty good looking. What they could do would be to re-master it using the original art files, if they still exist...
And then someone could do the same with Monkey island 3... oh please please pretty please.

I was wondering the same thing while reading this. I also wonder if they're going to get Jan Rabson to play Larry and Neil Ross to do narration. I love all the Larry games, but 6 and 7 are by far my favorites. Larry 7 is the best classic-style adventure game of all time, I think. Full Throttle comes in second, which I agree with whylekat, it should be remade in HD. I was hoping for that when LucasArts remade the Monkey Island games.

I'll buy it for every console and platform (even if I don't own it) to try to ensure they make it through the entire series. Then maybe they'll decide to remake Space Quest as well. THEN my life will be complete.
