No. That's just a map from TF2 rendered in a Web Browser using WebGL. An acute, but distinct, difference.

To be fair, isn't the 3d rendering kinda the hard part? It isn't like TF2 has much in the way of AI (just turrets) or complex scripted events or anything. Not sure if this guy ripped the models straight out of the full game on Valve, but if he did, then he should have all of the animations done as well. Otherwise, yeah, animations can take, er, forever.

Proper 3D games would still require hardware accelleration. Meaning that you'd need a decent APU or discreet 3D card.

At which point, why would you play the game on a web browser instead of a dedicated app on steam?

@Kinthalis It's not about replacing regular games, it's about adding another avenue/market for games. No, you won't be playing Rage 2 in your web browser, but you might be playing "awesome cartoony MMO FPS/RPG hybrid game w/ no name" on it and enjoying the heck out of it.

Except no, you can't. This was a demonstration by one guy of WebGL's power by loading a TF2 map into it, nothing more. Yet.

Yeah, rendering a map in a 3D environment =/= "running the game" in a certain environment. Those two things are significantly different.

@Skorpeyon

Yeah. I can render a TF2 map on my iPod, but that doesn't mean I can actually play the map.

@EliminatorZigma

Yeah, I wholly doubt that an iPod could render TF2's world...

Ah, feels good man. This is a nice "f you" to all the people debating me last week with my comments about how Flash is on it's way out because of HTLM5 and WebGL.

Sure, this may not be working yet, but it's one dude, and just a proof of concept. I would expect Valve to see this and get right on that.

@Jennacide HA, an example of a 3d environment working in a browser? As you said, it isn't working and it isn't the game. How about you wait to champion something when it is a little more than a poorly rendered tech demo. Unreal engine 3 is vastly superior to what this is showing although this is pretty impressive from a technical standpoint. What exactly is it you have against flash anyways? Or are you just spouting the same bs arguments that have no real grounding.
Valve getting right on that, that's rich. Don't worry, I am sure this is exactly what they have been waiting for so they can build episode 3.

There's accessible, and then there's 'I have to use an entire month's bandwidth on downloading updates to play this'.

That's it. I'm already an old fogey. I'm stubborn. I don't like the web as a platform or touchscreen devices as the new gaming standard.

I'm not sure if you guys saw this already:
EPIC Games ported the Unreal Engine 3 (Mass Effect, Gears of War, etc) into the new Flash Player 11, which supports hardware acceleration.
