Compared to other games the emphasis on micro-transactions is minimal. If you use a halfway decent strategy and are willing to accept failure every once in a while there's little need to buy Astral Diamonds.

Am I the only who stopped getting excited about D&D games on computers? The last one that seemed to be any good was DDO, but as MMO I just couldn't get into it.

I'm personally jonesing for a hardcore, mature D&D single player game (and no I don't mean adult rated, get your mind out of the gutter). The way I see it, the casual RPG players are well served by games like ME, DA, Torchlight for ARPG fans. Then there's the likes of Oblivion, Fallout, Two Worlds and Witcher for deeper and larger experience. What I don't see however are games catering fans of a classic D&D experience on PCs.

I'd like something like BG or Icewind Dale brought to modern times. I'd like a party of 6 that is always with me, instead of having to pick 2 or 3 of them to travel with me to yet another "level". I'd like to travel the world from place to place instead of using a "hub" area and teleporting from level to level. I'd like a story big and expensive enough to give me a chance to get my characters to the godly 25+ levels. I'd like to see an absolute shitload of classes and epic classes represented, in fact, ideally, all of them. I'd like to explore both familiar and new areas of forgotten realms - something to root me back in the lore and then hit me with a "woah, haven't seen that before!" moments.

I know it's a niche market, but it's not like the current crop of D&D games are hitting mass market levels exactly. Better have a quality title that addresses a smaller market, rather than create a piece of crap that aims at a larger market (not necessarily saying that that facebook game is crap, just a general statement).

I can't be the only one thinking this, can I?

@2late2die No, I am completely with you. Although I thought the first Dragon Age did an excellent job of subbing in for Baldur' s Gate it was still missing that certain something.

I really think Bioware should think about doing a small scale old school 2D isometric Baldur's Gate follow up; no need to get fancy just give us an HD fourth rule sequel using a small team of developers. I know the market for this type of game is very small but there IS a market!

In the meantime, at least this Facebook game does a decent job scratching that itch.

This game is excellent for a Facebook game and it's perfectly playable without having to spend any money. My only gripes are that you can't really play with your friends' characters and always have to be hiring people which really sucks since money is pretty scarce, the loot system is also pretty annoying.

If you're low on cash, venture into any User Created Dungeon with "Sniffer" in the title. Kill the "Fart Sniffer" in the first room, loot the body, end the adventure.

You are not alone my friend!

Unfortunately, unless an indie dev can afford the license, and has the team in place to handle something like a new BG/NWN.

The big publishers aren't interested unless they think it can somehow tpa into the call of duty "bro" market or the super casual social gaming market.

Hence the game described on this article.
