EA is ready to reveal the 9 multiplayer maps that will come with Battlefield 3 when it ships in a couple weeks. Well, to be clear, it's ready to reveal 9 over two days (four of them today), with one of those four being the "Operation Metro" map from the beta. And by "reveal," we mean: talk about with a couple screenshots. So... yay?
Head on over to the Battlefield blog for details from Niklas Åstrand, one of the level designers at developer DICE on the maps. He covers the vast Operation Firestorm, cramped Operation Metro, the vehicle to infantry progression of Tehran Highway and, finally, Damavand Peak. Internally called "Base Jump," Damavand Peak starts with attackers atop a mountain ridge, working their way down to the valley, with more vehicle warfare below.

Hey look at that Joystiq posting a BF post without subliminally bashing it. So... yay?

Attackers base jump off of that cliff to assault the MCOM stations below? I'm sorry, how does anyone bash this game, again? If there's one thing that says "Not a reiteration of last year's game," it's suddenly adding a base jump level (along with mind-blowing graphics, a new human physics engine and updated destructability).
ALL HAIL BATTLEFIELD!

@SpaceFox How the hell did you get downvoted for stating facts? BF2 was amazing..BFBC2 was great but a different game...BF3 was promised to be a proper sequel to BF2 with jets and prone returning, old maps ,ect, but its more of a mix between BF3 and BFBC2..fine by me

lmao perhaps we'll have to share that cliff with the enemy upon spawning? or maybe there will be a Point we have to capture up on that huge platform, requiring us to climb those cliffs to get to it? sounds uhhh like it wont happen

Cant wait for "Base Jump" map. I'm hoping it reminds me of playing titan maps in BF2142, minus the flying artillery guns.

Yeah...that's amazing. Wonder if they only got away with it because they have the LOTR movie license.

Battlefields ok, but we all know battlefield achieved perfection when you could pilot a zeppelin, stand on any flying vehicle when in air (also land on the zeppelin) running around only moved your legs and it was called Codename Eagle. Hey DICE what happened to you man, you use to be cool..

YAY! more maps the better :P don't forget those 9 maps PLUS the 4 revamped BF2 maps so it should be pretty awesome on release :D
I hope I don't fail university because of this game :P haha.
That screenshot just looks amazing! it is certainly an original idea for a map and should be really good!

Back to Karkand maps aren't on release.
Seeing how BF3 is going, I'd say a good 2-3 months before they come out.

That source is from February.
Trust me, its not on release. But from what I've read, it's about a month after release. Still don't buy that, considering the plethora of features missing from BF3 at launch.

Don't forget the part where the jeep starts to nose dive and touble and as you exit you get clipped by the jeep and die.
Can't wait for this map, though I think it would be more impressive cliff diving with a tank or APC.

Just a completely unrelated FYI for all future BF3 Players:
Vehicles typically hold more than one passenger, so if you take off by yourself in that Helicopter with 4 empty seats only to jump out of it further up the map....I will hunt you down like a dog.
See you Oct 25th :)

I'm looking forward to all of those maps. I can't stand some of the comments on that blog though, mostly the ones about the lack of diversity. People can apparently analyze just how good these maps will be based on two screenshots and no map of the layout.
Plus Joystiq criticizing them for "revealing" Operation Metro when they acknowledge that its one they've already shown is pretty stupid. They just gave a little more insight behind their goals for that map, why is that a negative? I assume most people would answer that they want to see new maps, but they will come eventually, are people's tolerance for patience that low?
On another note, I enjoyed Operation Metro. The map has a great progression between different styles of combat, even though there aren't vehicles involved. I know everyone couldn't wait to play some big conquest maps with vehicles, but it makes sense to start the multiplayer network tests with smaller servers and make sure those work well before rolling out the big stuff. I'm less disappointed with the Beta than I am with the legions of over-dramatic players who bash the developers. DICE continues to give us loads of preview material and is met at every turn with needless criticism, very little of which is actually constructive.
