THQ has officially announced a date for the long-awaited Warhammer 40K MMO, subtitled Dark Millennium. Don't get too excited, because it isn't due until March 13, 2013. Given all of the games we have yet to see this year, not to mention next year, this Warhammer seems especially distant in the future. Our friends at Massively have a ton of info if you need something to tide you over.
At least THQ is staking an early claim on that "3/13/13" date. May we recommend the picturesque Hinesville, GA -- home of not one, not two, but three signers of the Declaration of Independence -- as a place on which to center the midnight launch proceedings? You'll really like the zip code tie-in.
Update: THQ sends a note that it has not yet officially announced a date for the title, and there is no more mention of 2013 on the official websites for THQ or the game itself. Unmark that calendar, we guess.

oh please. enough with the b.s. already. we all know the world isn't magically going to explode on 12/12/12 or whatever the date is supposed to be. i mean, we aren't all really that stupid to believe that it will, are we?

Pretty sure we won't die, but the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar in my opinion signifies a massive change of some kind. I think it will be the beginning of a shift in the Earth's rotational axis, and it will mess with the weather big time.
Is the Earth going to blow up? No. But something will happen. The Mayans were right about a lot of things, and their astronomical and mathmatical saavy I think was alien influenced. LoL

yeah, and all that insight really helped them to avoid getting raped by the Spaniards, right? all whilst the Mayan leaders were saying, "Never you fear, these men are gods!"

Oh man, I jumped out of my chair and then jumped around yelling incoherently as soon as I read this title. Can't believe this is actually happening, dream come true.
I wonder how it will work though, given that MMOs have such a focus on customization, it's pretty likely you'll be able ton select what chapter your marine is from, but what after that? Space Marines are hardly lone wolf types (well, except for Space Wolves on occasion), it would seem out of place to be soloing everything on your own. I wonder if they'll have some kind of really dynamic quest system that changes for every chapter? Maybe even have companion characters like TOR?

well, as far as customization goes, the Wikipedia page says: "Players will be able to customize their characters visual appearance with ranged and melee weapons, armor, books, scrolls and chains."
have you played Space Marine's multiplayer mode? it does a great job of really allowing you to customize your Adeptus Astartes Space Marine or Chaos Space Marine. it's got a tiered leveling system similar to most multiplayer games these days, but the higher the level and the more weapon and armor challenges you complete, the cooler the stuff is that you unlock. if you get to the highest level, you can even unlock an Iron Halo. of course you can also choose colors from your favorite Chapters, or make your own colors. given how Dark Millenium is an MMO, i expect the customization to run even deeper than that.

@Liquidfingers Yeah that's cool and what not, but it's kind of nonsensical to have a dozen different chapters, and one clown colored guy all running around together.

i agree. it'll be interesting to see if they decide to just let all Space Marine players be one chapter or have numerous chapters. and if it's numerous chapters, will quests be different for each?

The Emperor Protects! I hope this is a success. I won't play it (mostly because I don't own a gaming PC), but I hope other people enjoy it. I wonder what they'll do to make sure it stays around. Look at how many MMOs have come and gone since WoW ascended to the throne. I hope this doesn't turn into another Tabula Rasa.

Somethings are already rubbing me the wrong way...Orks are with Chaos and Eldar are with Spacemarine? Um no. They hate each other! Please don't mess up this MMO!

The Eldar and the Imperium are willing to work with each other against sufficiently major threats. Like, say, an Ork WAAAAGH backed up by Chaos.
(I'm actually kind of surprised that Orks and Chaos don't get along better, really. You'd think Khorne would LOVE the greenskins.)
