Get caught in FFXIII-2's dark embrace via NYCC trailer and screens
47
Final Fantasy XIII 2 may not arrive in the US until early next year, but that doesn't mean you can't immerse yourself in its timey-wimey mythos ahead of time. Debuted at the ongoing New York Comic Con, the above trailer and below screenshots offer a fairly in-depth, potentially spoilersy look at Square Enix's latest romp through Cocoon.
We're not sure if something can still be considered a "trailer" when it lasts longer than most Adult Swim cartoons, but an extraordinarily long cinematic experience should feel like a warm, tender hug to anyone interested in a Final Fantasy sequel-sequel.

Despite the story, FFXIII really is amazing in appearance.

What about this song in the end of the video. That's complete and utter crap!
Posted: Oct 15th 2011 9:27PM (Unverified) said
Why do they keep using that song in the trailers...
Anyway, hopefully the story is coherent with all this time travel and whatnot thrown into an already complex world.

Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that Final Fantasy has to have 2 numbers to name each game now?

Ew, Hope is in this game... Still want it.

This is hope's redemption game. Hope plays an important role in the storyline.

@(Unverified) I still don't understand why people hated on Hope in the first game. Put in his shoes, probably any kid would have behaved similarly. Thrust into chaos, forced to work with the guy you think killed your mom mere days before, turned into something society sees as its enemy, all when you're what, 12 years old? Give the kid a break.
Personally, I loved throwing his assortment of massive spells at enemies, and it was a fun challenge trying to keep him alive. I beat the final boss as him, and it was exhilarating.

Looking good, specially the combat system that looks simply improved instead of remade, FFX-2 style.
Also, doing combos alongside eidolons = win.

That song sure is some Peabo Bryson / NiGHTs "Dreams Dreams" caliber...stuff.

I hope that didn't spoil anything too bad for me, although I did enjoy it anyway. Looks improved in all sorts of ways!

I still have yet ot play Final Fantasy XIII. And apart from a few things this looks pretty damn good. The song towards the end of the vid is f*ckin' terrible tho
And it took me a second to figure it out but Noel Kreiss's voice is the voice of Max from the Goofy Movie xD
this is Noell: http://static.zerochan.net/full/47/22/621147.jpg because I doubt anyone knows the names yet (unless he was in Final Fantasy XIII, I don't know because haven't played it yet)

The storyline looked a lot better this time around, the graphics were stunning, the only bad thing was the music in the second half of that video, it sounded like it was played with Casio presets.

I still think that Charice is a weird choice for a Final Fantasy game, but you have to admit that she's a really good singer. The song is sappy as hell, but I can't really say I expected anything different. It fits the source material.
Sappy song or not, I'm so stoked for this game. Also, Hope! :D

@Nier Glad someone beat me to it. I only found out about her when they announced she was doing the theme song a few months back, and she is an amazing amazing singer....the song is terrible though. She needs a better composer, song writer, and arranger.

Please don't use something as great as Doctor Who and something as bad as FFXIII in the same thought.

How is that even possible?

Wow. I'm superhyped for this game. I enjoyed XIII regardless of what people say about it.

Still seemed a bit "overly-cheesy" in terms of story, and for somereason the "Future" Hope, or the more grown up Hope resembled Vaan a lot from XII, don't know why I saw a similiarity. Graphics are still pretty though, so kudos Squeenix, making games like a movie.

The song from the middle onwards gives an End of Evangelion (with Komm Susser Tod = na na na it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down) and Rebuild of Evangelion (specially 2.0) atmosphere, like shit is going down, its like the end of the world or something, but the music is soft and lyrical

This game actually looks pretty solid, given the comparatively small development window. I'm always up for time travel story, even though as a story mechanic it's rarely handled well.
But every time I remember that it has monster recruiting, it takes all the wind out of my sails. I hate that mechanic, it always feels like a cop out to me.

Thank the gods. you almost went a whole week without a FF13 post. I was beginning to think you were threatened or something

So, is it just me or did that trailer seem to give a LOOOOT of stuff away?
I mean, some of it isn't in your face, but it certainly seems to imply a lot of big plot points....
It looks as though they might have actually shown some of the ending cutscene in there o.o

Ugh, I hate you Squenix, so so much. I know I'm going to disappointed by this game but I have no choice but to fork over cash any time you offer something with the words "Final" and "Fantasy" in the title.
Here, just take my wallet.

I hardly think there will be any of Cocoon in this game except for its former inhabitants (I'm not watching the video though, so I may be wrong).

Oh yeah, it just hit me... So we're gonna have parallel worlds AND time travel? Chrono Cross had one of the most complex storylines I can think of with parallel worlds alone (I don't really think you can count CT time travel), they can either easily mess up big time with this or make up for the previous game overall weak plot. Despite Serah, I'm excited!

Late to the party, but with a decent line: "Nice soul edge, bro."
