Why, oh why do we have to bother with that "press X repeatedly to open up a vent" stuff again? That bothered me in Arkham Asylum and I pray to the gaming gods that this damn "mechanic" dies a slow, painful death

Maybe you should play on PC.

Reason 5104 of why PC is a better platform:
You can keybind things that have to be pressed repeatedly to your mouse-wheel.

I registered an account just to post this comment, FYI.

Have you ever PLAYED Syndicate? Or the sequel Syndicate Wars? Ever? Once even? Maybe you should check them out. Cause they were really fun.

I don't deny it looks like it could even be a fun if somewhat generic action FPS, but it's not Syndicate.

@emisune I too just registered to actually reply to your comment. I hope nobody flames me. I saw old footage of the original Syndicate, and it looked cool. I don't get into games like that. I just wanted to remind everyone that look what they did to Metroid Prime and Fallout 3. A lot of games are getting reboots in the first person perspective...and they are turning out pretty good in my opinion.

What is this nonsense?! The new "Syndicate" game looks like rubbish. The original games were about infiltration, heavily armored dudes in trenchcoats, and raising an army of unwitting mind controlled slaves in order to assist you. Instead we get another fps. "wow" I'm sure it's just sooo "epic" I promise to be impressed when I trigger a scripted event every few minutes.

I love cyberpunk, I loved Deus Es:HR..but..at least be creative with the way the game looks and feels. I mean this is a clear Deus Ex:HR rip off. Even if they didn't do it intentionally, after seeing Deus Ex:HR they should have changed it around a little.

@Slomoshun I would argue that they should've learned MORE from DX:HR. One of the reasons it was so popular was that, although in many areas it changed and improved the gameplay experience, it stayed true to the style of Deus Ex. It was a real prequel.

What they've done here is tried to photocopy DX:HR and put the name from another old, successful sci-fi franchise.

You guys have no idea how game development works. The development of this game overlapped the development of DE:HR. It's not like they slapped together what they have now in the few months AFTER they saw what DE:HR was going to look like...

I mean it's a cyber-punk game how could they drastically change the look and feel but still have it be recognizable as such? Even cyber-punk/distopian movies all look the same at their core

Man, I hope the developers aren't counting on support from the fans, because I can't recall this much animosity about a franchise reboot. The game looks great, the Syndicate world is full of potential, and all I hear is constant whining about how it's not the same as the original. There's nothing about this that spits in the face of the original title. Luckily, the vast majority of their target market has never even heard of the original, and hopefully all this complaining won't make them dismiss this. Their biggest obstacle is the success of Deus Ex, since this looks REALLY similar. I just hope there's a good story.

Not sure what everyone else is seeing, but this felt a lot like the old Syndicate games to me. Unlike the trailers, the pacing felt deliberately slower. Every now and then I just kept picturing what was going on from an isometric perspective, and it worked.

Okay okay it's not a strategy game, you don't control four people, you don't upgrade, etc., but I feel like those are concessions to modern gameplay more than anything. I think this is as close as you can get to Syndicate from the first-person perspective.

...you know, come to think of it, they really should've put these guys in charge of a reboot of Crusader instead, but I'll take this!

So you are saying that because Deus Ex HR is out and is similar to their game they should just cancel it? Most IPs that are just starting off take more than at least 3 years till they are released. This game has been in development before Deus Ex was even announced.

Lol. Your reply post ended up in the completely wrong thread.

First, I want to retract my use of the word "rip off" and replace it with "copy." They didn't steal anyone's idea deliberately (as far as I know), but it still looks like a copy.

Second, in response, no I don't think they should cancel it. I just think it's unfortunate the timing worked out the way it did. It's like when two similar movies get released in the theaters. You can't help but compare the two and wonder.

The trailer made this look great. When watching gameplay, it looks like probably the most dumbed down concept for a game I've even seen. It's pretty much "Press X to Win" with how liberally you can use hacking on people, or the fact that there's weapons that consist of automatically routing the bullets around corners to kill them.

It doesn't make me feel like some technologically advanced badass, it makes me feel like I played a game that's afraid to let you lose.

I just hope there are a couple bosses and harder to kill enemies. I especially hope you fight against other characters like yourself that can actually hack your hacks. I'm a gamer. I think it's odd that everyone lauded Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but is panning this game. I didn't think DX:HR was that great, but the gunplay/hacking/tech aspects seem similar but more streamlined and more fluidly implemented than in HR which just felt clunky.

As far as the, "This is nothing like syndicate argument": What did you expect? It's not profitable anymore to make anything that a 12-18 demographic will enjoy unless it is essentially COD/easy assisted aim/iron-sight clone. That's pretty much the only thing that demographic buys as far as action titles. Maybe old school Syndicate style game could sell on XBL and PSN, but it wouldn't really hit the profit margin game companies are focusing on anymore nor target the largest portion of the demographic.

I do remember reading an article 3 or 4 months ago about a new turn-based squad game with some dev build images that were gorgeously rendered in 3D called Fray. There is also Xenonauts and U.F.O. coming out which intend to capture that XCOM theme and gameplay style. These games still exist, and people still make them.

@nrkist2424

I laud Dues EX (the original) and even DX:HR yet this demo for Syndicate left me wanting.

DX's richness was not clunky, it's augmentation, sub-missions, combat and hacking systems were complex but that complexity were given to the player in bite size chunks. This is what the mainstream needs. They don't mind a complex system if there is a friendly learning curve. Eventually the player feels rewarded because he feels smart when managing to hack, or use the chosen augmentation to carry out a task more easily.

Instead in Syndicate everything that could have been great because inspired from DX has been watered down. Hacking a brain is a one button affair, it's not rewarding and instant. When I saw that I went WTF?!
Same thing with hacking the environment, the turret and the dataverse. I can't believe all this power is given so easily so early and at a push of a button. WHat the presenter called a puzzle was no puzzle at all.
And that Press X repeatedly thing.... OMG!!!

Trust me, this game is just a lot of hype that will amount to a game that receives low scores when it actually gets reviewed hands on.

@(Unverified) The only thing I saw as a positive was the fact that adrenaline charges certain goodies quicker. It is a good incentive for getting into action.
I love FPSs but I was expecting more. I hope EA releases another 10 minute teaser that changes my opinion. The Syndicate franchise has too much potential to be wasted like this.

Well, I disagree. Submissions in DX:HR? You mean the 2 per every major mission that you will run across regardless? There is no reason not to do them, and require no exploration on the players part to discover. I dunno, that just felt clunky to me. Might as well have just made them mandatory. The story was bland and pointless. The gunplay was worse and stealthing was more rewarding in gameplay and in experience. With Syndicate it looks like they want the gunplay to be foremost and all these tech aspects to facilitate and ACTUALLY augment this. You are also missing the point that the hacking is not instantaneous AND that hacking requires adrenaline...which are point rewards for gunplay. See how one thing fuels the other and facilitates a stream-lined fps?

I'm not saying the title will be great...but probably better than DX:HR. Since DX:HR is the very low bar that people are setting for 'great' games now, it STILL surprises me that these same people are panning this game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm gutted this isn't a strategy game, but I have no major issues with what I've seen- it looks like a solid cyberpunk FPS with some nice elements in it - whilst I'm enjoying Deus Ex, the story is a bit "meh"- it feels a bit too cliche rich and I can't relate at all with the character- so Syndicate has a place here- even if it's just to keep the Deux Ex guys going on a sequel with a better story arc, or, shocker, actually achieve a good cyberpunk story in Syndicate itself...
