Sure, you already knew that the Amazing version of Spider-Man would be getting his own game, but have you seen the New York Comic Con trailer yet? Unless you were in the room with us, the answer is probably no, but we've got it here for you right now!

Every time a new Spidey game is made, I always hope it'll play just like Spider-Man 2.
But it never does.

Can't upvote this enough. Spider-Man 2 is the definitive Spidey game, and everything that followed it (even the ones from the same developer) pales in comparison, mostly because of the gameplay (or "THWIP mechanics", as I like to call it). Why try to fix something that was not broken? Seriously, the web-swinging in Spider-Man 2 is perfect. Never before had a game made me feel like a superhero like Spider-Man 2 did. And if you don't trust me, at least trust Yahtzee.

Activision is going to drive Beenox into the ground which is sad, because if given the time I'm sure they could make an outstanding Spider-Man game. Instead they're forced to release one each year.

Activision should understand that with great power (owning the rights to a legendary character!) comes great responsibility (taking the time and care needed, to rise up to the responsibilty, in making a fine game).

I bought web of shadows again yesterday as i can't imagine Edge of Time being any good after the pile of shit that was Shattered Dimensions (and reading the reviews).
I'm loving it (like i did last time) but there's a few problems - wall running, jumping and general navigation awkwardness. Hopefully this'll fix those problems and be amazing like WoS and SM2. But knowing beenox, it'll be like SM3

I played web of shadows on pc, and the web swinging is terrible. like approaching spiderman 1 and 2 on PS1 terrible. What can his web reach passing satelites now? why not buildings? if they fixed the web-swinging and major glitches this would be a fine game, the combat is extremely well animated and satisfying.
Meh, I'll just install my trusty copy of Ultimate Spider-man and go for a swing.

Yeah, i think i'll have to agree with you a bit more now. Been playing it more and found more glitches/problems.
Symbiote hives disappear mid-combat
Wall running makes me want to snap the disc
Jumping off of buildings randomly
These are the major ones lol. I don't think the web swinging is THAT bad, it's just, he can seemingly swing from a building 2 blocks over, or not at all at times

Dear lord, was spider-man swinging around in a CITY?! God, if I learned anything from the past 2-3 spider-man games it's that he was meant to be stuck in close, confined places, which really shows off what the hero really is.
You throw him in a free-roam area where he's free to swing around and perform acrobatics, and well you just take away what it means to be spider-man. That's why Spider-Man 2 the game failed so hard at capturing who he is.

You're the only person that has ever really called SM2 a bad game.
It's known to be the the top favorite for a lot of SM fans, including myself.
And yes...he was swinging around in the city...where have you been all these years.
"This city is my playground."
I don't remember him saying "This room...this is my playground."

Actually looks promising. Good thing they resorted back to free roam. Swinging seems to be at a faster pace and looks like you can do cooler tricks. Really hope this comes out nicely and not just another mediocre SM game.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm the eternal Spider-Man video game pessimist who's been burned by every game since Spider-Man 2... but that was pre-scripted cutscenes of Spider-man flipping around the city and then a giant spider something comes out of the ground...

Okay, I'm replying a lot in this post, but am I the only one who thinks spiderman should just enjoy the hell out of swinging around? what is this moody trailer? where are the heroic soundtrack and wisecracks?
Same with the movie, a whole trailer with not a single wisecrack? Dude, this is not twilight 4: enter the spider. I am only 23 and already I feel like a crotchety old man (read in Farnsworth voice) "DAMN KIDS THESE DAYS WITH THEIR SPENGBABS AND THEIR EPADS, why in my day we had reboot and beast wars, and war planets, none of this random poppycock!"

Reminds me of batman arkham city how you can land on poles and stuff, I just want the movement to be rigid and flow good at the same time (SM2) and not awkward / loose (WoS, or anything besides SM2..)
This fast movement looks good but also like it would end up feeling awkward

The last Spider-Man game I played through was the Spider-Man 2 movie game and that was not too long after the game came out, so I don't know how Spider-Man 3 holds up.
Wasn't that game just more of the same? From some of the gameplay footage I saw, it looks like the free roaming aspect is still there. What makes it not as popular as Spider-Man 2? Am I wrong about the free roaming?

I know I'm in the minority here. But I am tired of "free-roaming" being the quintessential ingredient that people need from a spider-man game. I am a diehard Spider-Man fan. Not just as a gamer; but as a person who loves the character. Beenox may not of had free roaming in Shattered Dimensions, but it had fan service all around it. Written by an actual Spider-man comic author, four different spider-men voiced by actual spider-man voice actors. Paying homage to four different comic book incarnations of the character. But all anyone cared about was "OMG IT DON'T HAVE FREEROAM!!!" So what? I'd rather play a game that portrays the characters correctly and tells a fun story than being the same copycat clone time after time. How many free roam Spider-man games do you really need? Yes Spider-man 2 broke the mold and was a delight to finally realize that dream of "doing anything a spider can." But every attempt after that felt lacking to me because it was the same old thing. Ultimate spider-man had a great story and art style. But the free roam in it felt tired and it was incredibly short. Spider-man 3 was glitchy and terrible. Web of Shadows had a horrible voice actor for spider-man and the story was stupid. I was hyped for that game and horribly disappointed. Shattered Dimensions was a fresh attempt at something new and I laughed throughout it because the plucky smart mouthed web slinger that I always loved was in a game.
I haven't played Edge of Time. Not interested in the recycled concept of SD. The spider-man game I want... Spider-man meets Mirror's Edge ala the Theatrical trailer for the movie. Who is with me?!

I don't disagree. I think some freeroaming isn't bad. But making the entire game that way is not necessary. As I said in my other comment, they need to take a lesson from the Batman Arkham games.
Those games got pretty much everything right. The combat is polished and consistent (and fun! :D), the environments are big and look good (but not so big it's overwhelming, or there's a ton of screen tearing), the abilities are vast, but they are balanced perfectly (in my opinion), it doesn't throw everything at you from the beginning and say "here ya go, figure it out."...*cough*Prototype*cough*...The story takes pieces of the back story and intertwines it with the current story (very well I might add). The side missions and extras are thrown in in a way that doesn't distract from the main story.
Things like this need to be taken into consideration, not just with Spider Man games, but with any super hero game, and by extension, any game that these things apply to.

@EffinNinja Sorry had to down vote you. Web of Shadows was epic - easily one of the most ambitious Spider-Man games to date while Shattered Dimensions and it's mentally challenged brother Edge of Time were linear, boring, epic fails. WoS wasn't perfect, but Shaba was on its way to getting there (as they had help from Treyarch) - had they been given a chance for a sequel we probably would have been close to Arkham Asylum (but not AC) quality. Sadly they didn't get the chance. Every reviewer and moron fawned over Shattered Dimensions so much so that I thought I woke up in a Shattered Dimension where everyone now loved moronic, linear lame Spider-Man games. Then I realized the only reason most people liked SD was because of all of the pretty costumes. Gamers are pretty stupid.... Luckily I woke in the correct dimension where EoT was recognized for the crappy cash in it was.

Decent enough trailer but I don't really see how it's anywhere possible for this game to be of good quality with such a short turn around time. Unless, perhaps, that they just turned a monkey loose on the last game while they worked on this in secret.
