There are a few ways into the cold, hardened heart of a Joystiq blogger, but there is perhaps no better way than a play on words. With this in mind, we are pleased, nay, forced to reveal Guacamelee, the latest title from Tales from Space: About a Blob developer Drinkbox Studios. Presumably, both Macho Cheese and Hits and Salsa were taken.
The downloadable title follows the likes of Metroid, except instead of a badass space bounty hunter, players take up the role of badass luchador, Juan Aguacate. And, instead of reaching new areas with jump boots, you do it with wrestling moves. Also, Juan can swap between parallel worlds at will. In other words, it makes a lot more sense than Metroid ever did.
No release date or platforms have been announced. If you happen to be in the Toronto area, you can try out Guacamelee during the First Person Show at Digifest on October 30.

TORONTO, Ontario (October 18th, 2011) – Toronto-based developer DrinkBox Studios has announced that it is working on a new downloadable game titled "Guacamelee!"
Guacamelee! features a down on his luck Mexican named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente's Daughter is kidnapped by an Evil Charro Skeleton. The story takes place in and around a small village in Mexico, and has the player travelling through alternate dimensions including "The World of the Dead" and "The World of Nightmares" on his quest to rescue the girl he loves.
"The game draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters", said DrinkBox COO Graham Smith. "With this title, we're looking to build upon the classic open-world, Metroid-vania style of games by adding a strong melee combat component, a new dimension switching mechanic, and cooperative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story. We are also attempting to blur the boundaries between combat and platforming by making many of the moves you perform useful for both of these."
