Adventurers take note, Good Old Games is currently offering the first three Broken Sword titles at half price. That's three retro adventures for a paltry $9, or $3 each if you're feeling choosy (and you should have the first one anyway). Choose quickly, because the deal is over on Friday.
GOG has also added the fourth game in the series, Broken Sword: Angel of Death, to its catalogue, though we've heard rumors that the $10 title isn't worth your precious time.
Joystiq has sent one of its reporters on assignment to talk with the public to find out more. Join him on the scene after the break.
Reporter: This is Joystiq's Man on the Street, Richard Mitchell. I'm here with a gentleman by the name of Ludwig Kietzmann. He's been telling folks not to buy the fourth Broken Sword game. We're here to find out why. So, Ludwig, what's the deal?
Citizen: Allow me to explain! In Broken Sword 4, there's a sequence in which you're required to retrieve a document from a locked cabinet in a butchery.
Reporter: I see. And how do you achieve this?
Citizen: You gather some oil from a hanging salami, which you apply to the wheels of the cabinet. You can now push the cabinet out the window into a giant grinder below. The cabinet is destroyed, but, luckily, the document is safely ejected! Then you quit the game and delete it forever.
Reporter: There you have it folks. This is Richard Mitchell, reporting live for Joystiq News.

Steam did do this cheaper, but I guess it's a good deal if you missed out. One thing to consider, bigger fans of the series may want to note that Broken Sword 2 comes with the director's cut/remastered version which is currently not on Steam. Plus, it's DRM-free if you don't like steam.

It's like a dollar more on GoG if you got the first one free during the 6 million download promo.
Regardless, I avoid buying old games on Steam after getting burned on Gothic II and Freedom Force. Sometimes they can be a serious headache to get working in 64 bit Windows 7, when 99% of GoG games work flawlessly right after installing.

Buy the games to legally get the data files.
But they run better in ScummVM than whatever native executable was packaged with them from GoG or Steam.

@JoystiqQ GoG has the Director's Cut versions of 1 and 2, so I'd be very surprised if they ran worse.
Steam has the Director's Cut version of 1, but 2 is actually run via ScummVM. Originally, it included an old version (that wouldn't play the video files), but they upgraded to a more recent edition at some point.

The Fourth Game was pretty good, it's just an absolute pity that the ending was one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever seen in video gaming.
I'm not even exaggerating.

God damn it. I'm looking forward to playing it (finally), but a bad ending can really sour me on a whole experience.

I'm more surprised that I didn't even know a fourth game existed until now.

@LaughingTarget Me either, I played the first one on GBA, third one on PC and never knew there was a fourth. Looks like it's a good time to check out the second.
