I like how they added that in as if people cared about Sonic 4.

Perhaps the ultimate plan is for Sonic 4 to tie into Sonic CD somehow.

Yeah, they haven't gotten around to rehashing any levels from that yet, have they?

I still have a working Sega Genesis with a Sega CD, but i lost my Sonic CD disk... This would be a lot simpler to play than going through the hassle of finding either it or a new one, I just hope it comes with the original music, which kicked all kinda of ass.

@ironneko
It does come with the original music, yes.
It does not, however, come with the music that likely came with the version of Sonic CD you played (assuming by the usage of "Sega CD" that you're referring to the US version), which was NOT the original music but was pretty swank, too.

Can't agree with that. "Sonic Boom" is great and all, but "You Can Do Anything" is just fine, too.
Plus the rest of the soundtrack is more consistent; no more going into the Past stages and hearing a totally different composer's work playing. with a completely different melody from the rest of the level's themes. I like that.

Sega: "Alright that didn't work, let's go back to our side-scrolling roots, but with air dashes and 3D worlds!" .....meh
Sega: "F*ck it, let's just ship this Sega CD sequel we never released and make it widescreen." ......sells f*cking millions

Sonic never should have left the side scrolling style.
Eh, Adventures was okay. I was young-er and naive when I got my Dreamcast so I thought it was the bee's knees when Adventure came out.
But you just can't compare the originals, Generations is getting it right. So it certainly says a lot of how they created their games.

@SuperflyForever You don't know Generations has gotten it right yet. We're still in stage 1 of the Sonic Cycle. All of us are. All of us must either be delirious, or SEGA is coming out with the darn-tootin' best Sonic game of the decade.

It isn't available on PS2 in the US, isn't available on Xbox in any country, and is a bit of a botched port all around (low-quality sound effects, palette effects completely non-functional, special stages run faster than they're supposed to, etc).
Frankly, I'd rather support Taxman. His engine is amazing.

Just played Sonic CD on the Sega CD again for the first time in 15 years. Holy crap, the opening cinematic was compressed to hell. At least that got rectified in each successive port of the game. But I don't know if I can bring myself to buy this game again for a fourth time, especially if they have batshit-insane trophies like "Visit all variations of the hidden statue in Metallic Madness!"

Is the mid-'90s TV commercial thing going on in this trailer intentional? Because' it's pretty rad.

@Mach2 It's unintentional. The entirety of SEGA is currently reverting back to the 90s mentality, unknowingly.

@frr171 You've been lied to. Sonic CD is not a bad game. I'd say it's better than the original, Sonic 1. But it's in no way as polished and fun as Sonic 2, 3 & Knuckles.

Sonic 4 is only a "sequel" to Sonic CD in the sense that the next episode will feature Metal Sonic and maybe other references to Sonic CD.
You want Super Peel Out? Get Sonic Generations, it appears to be an unlockable there.

I would like to see Chaotix re-released, too. Though I guess if that happened, we would have even more whiners crying for the game using the "two characters connected by a rubber band" mechanic rather than just copying the gameplay of the Genesis games.

No, it isn't. Sonic CD is pretty fun but it has no unlockable Super Sonic, its physics are screwed up, and it's too slow paced.

You know, I've only played Sonic CD for some 30 minutes back in 1994 or so and I find it hard to believe that a Sonic game from that era can manage to be slow paced (WTF) and "hav brokn physix". Of course, I was a 10-year-old kid back then but I remember being blown away by the game in the exact same era the Genesis originals were still fresh.
Can't hardly wait for this one to come out.

...Dude, the game is about finding a single machine hidden in each stage. And while you can skip this task, the levels were designed for exploration and aren't good at keeping Sonic running for too long. How the heck is that fast-paced? It's the precursor to Knuckles' dreaded emerald hunting stages.
"and "hav brokn physix""
I could recall thousands of times I was running up a wall in Sonic CD and then, without warning, Sonic's position suddenly changed from vertical to horizontal as if the wall had ended, followed by me falling down. And it's not that I lost momentum - when this annoying thing, I'm always running at top speed up a wall and Sonic is never shown slowing down prior to it.

Am I the only person who thinks the name "Sonic CD" is just plain bizarre now?
It's one of the few games I know of that put the name of the physical media in the title. And now...it's completely irrelevant as it isn't even on a CD.
:/
Stupid progress.

Eh, I just attribute it to the tendency for companies to put the console's title in their game's title in a roundabout fashion.
Mega Bomberman, Super Metroid, Final Fight CD, Mario 64, Super Mario Advance, Super Mario 64 DS, Ocarina of Time 3D, Kirby Wii (at least in Japan/Europe)... that's only scratching the tip of the iceberg.

@Bohtaro Yep, Sonic Gems Collection has a port of a port of Sonic CD (it's based on the PC version). But it's neither widescreen nor HD. Nor does it have the option to use the Sonic 2 spindash like this new Sonic CD will. Heck, the Gems Sonic CD doesn't even show underwater sections in the right color!
