@Faenix Owners of Battlefield 3, on any platform, who activate their Online Pass will automatically be granted early access to the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo. There is no need to enter any other codes, the early access will be applied to the EA Account associated with the Online Pass. Note: BF3 Origin Customers automatically have the BF3 Online Pass.

Looks like buying Battlefield 3 will only give EARLY access to the multiplayer demo, then it will be open for all afterwards.

Well, it has Mass Effect in the title and Bioware is the developer. Doesn't get much better than that.

Did you forget about Dragon Age 2, also developed by BIOWARE after the 1st was critically acclaimed?

Bioware used to mean a quality title yes, but DA2 hurt my trust with them. I had a fun time with the game, but the horrible reuse of assets (something an amateur studio would do!), bugs, lack of the rise of power promised, lack of choices all around, hiding important narrative details in obscure codex entries... The list goes on.

It was a fun game, but it wasn't bioware quality that I knew and loved. I will still buy bioware games, but they are not an instant buy anymore you know?

I'm sorry. I didn't know Dragon Age of Mass Effect just came out...
Mass Effect 2 was way better than Mass Effect 1. Yes, it was simpler and stripped down, but it was far more entertaining and forward than the original. I trust Bioware with Mass Effect. I don't really care about Dragon Age- it's a completely different game to me.

And suffered in story and reused assets, hence the rushed timeline showed making it all more frustrating knowing that DA2 could have been much better. I didn't mind it the first 1.5 playthroughs but unlike DA:O which I played through with each origin, I've lost interest in the game and its DLC, though I play to revisit the series for the 3rd chapter.

@Cap Morgan Some of thte writing in DAO was dreadful, and the voice acting was cringe worthy. So I'm not sure which parts you think 'suffered'.

@CatalysticGEAR While DA2 was definitely one of the worst games I've played that were made by Bioware, it was still one of my top 10 games of '11 (maybe right at 10). Considering I've never played a Bioware game I didn't like and 90% of their games I've absolutely loved, I have enough faith in them that I could buy their games without worry. That being said, I hope DA3 still gets made and is similar to Origins.

One of EA's goals is to charge gamers for demos. They don't view demos like the rest of us rational folk.

Demos and Betas at this time are just marketing tools, designed to get you to spend money. Actually betas are nothing more than demos these days.

I don't know if you are just being facetious, but in the change you are not I will say that it just for early access for the demo. Everyone will get the demo regadless, and there will be other ways to access the demo early outside of buying BF3. Here I will post the official faq from bioware.

What are the details of the Mass Effect 3 pre-release demo?

•The Mass Effect 3 pre-release demo will launch in January 2012 (exact date TBA).
•The demo will include both single-player and multi-player sections.
•The demo will be released in all regions where the game is

How can I get early access to the multi-player portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo coming in January 2012?

•Owners of Battlefield 3, on any platform, who activate their Online Pass will automatically be granted early access to the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo. There is no need to enter any other codes, the early access will be applied to the EA Account associated with the Online Pass.
•This applies to all regions where the demo is released (to be announced)
•The exact date of the demo launch will be announced in late November
•There will be another program whereby players and fans of the Mass Effect franchise can unlock this early access (with no purchase necessary) – this will also be announced in late November or early December.
•There will also be a tool posted on www.masseffect.com allowing players to check if their EA account has been granted the early access.
•The length of the early access period is TBA.
•The single-player section of the demo will be available to all players on day one of the demo launch.

As mentioned, we will have more information and dates in the near future

Deus Ex was much more non-linear than ME 2....Sorry Bioware - ME 1 was a real interesting concept with true potential and you really dashed all my hopes with a mainstream, action-heavy linear ME 2....I can only forsee a ME 3 thats even more Gears like..... =/

Why does everyone compare the game to gears? The only similarity they have to each other is that both are cover based TPS's.

The way you move, the way your fight, the way cover mechanics work, they are all different.

Not saying that ME2 did the TPS genre well, but it isn't much like Gears.

It's a trade off...games that are too non-linear never have a really solid story...think the elder scrolls games...

@Nashk i kind of disagree. when going in and out of cover, rolling around in the "beta", i felt a serious Gears vibe. Not that it's a bad thing, but movement felt very similar to Gears.

You don't have to preorder BF3 to get early access. Bioware is working on a program for fans to get early access without purchasing anything.

The BF3 thing is just a bonus. I posted the faq above, but here is teh relevant quote.

"•There will be another program whereby players and fans of the Mass Effect franchise can unlock this early access (with no purchase necessary) – this will also be announced in late November or early December."

And you know that the multi isn't actually that big of a part of the game right?

I'm sure the multiplayer will be fun. ME2's gameplay was fun enough that having some friends along will enhance the experience-- even if the real draw of all BioWare games is the story options.

What I really want to know more about is the single-player analog to the multiplayer. If multiplayer is going to be used to gather some "Galactic Readiness" resource, then there's going to be something in the single-player that will also grant that resource.

If you're going to be able to build up the bulk of that resource in multiplayer, tell me that the method for building it up alone won't be total filler nonsense. My guts are in knots just thinking about a resurgence of bland "kill everything in this building" side quests from Mass Effect.

I need some assurance that they're putting some real narrative hooks in this content that they're already telling us is optional.

So... is this going to be a 2 day exclusive demo like BF3 was for Medal of Honor owners?

What a sham!

Still, it's enough of a Perk to help justify keeping my BF3 pre-order... not the only reason I'm keeping the pre-order, mind you - just one more added to the list.
