@Master Troll Exactly, a lot of mandatory updates that won't really do anything, and a lot of maintenance downtime. Just like old times

some companies never learn, all the things that they are going to do right now: updates, demands, online passes, are not going to work for anything, because you CAN¨T BEAT PIRACY first sony said that they fixed the exploit with the first jailbreak, well i can see how well they fix it because this new jailbreak appeared faster than the last one. Sony should be more worried on creating a good product and a good market and to give real support to their users than wasting time with this kind of useless and lost wars that have been fought for the last 20 years and are going to continue for as long as they said: you can´t copy this.

The only way to beat pirates is to get a band of Ninjas.

They're still prevalent now because.... no company is willing to hire any Ninjas

You are right you can't beat it, but if you constantly update your system, and upgrade the security you can keep the pirates at bay or at least make them work as hard to break in. It is never ending battle and I like the fact that SONY is willing to fight on my side.

@pickupdoctor I don't think you understand how piracy works . . . we're not talking about an STD or a virus here. Updating your own system won't actually keep other people from pirating. They can just keep their system offline and not be affected by updates.

That's true, but since this is a 3.55 only dongle, Sony will probably change the security method on their games, seeing as how keys are useless since this method appears to completely bypasses the need for a higher firmware and keys. However, it won't be as hectic as last time, because this doesn't blow the console wide-open. It only enables piracy for those who stayed on 3.55. The legit users won't be punished much, if anything, maybe 2-3 firmware updates and Sony is in the lead again.

Good game, Sony.

Sorry first sony is not fighting YOUR SIDE it´s their side, they couldn´t care less of you the only thing they care is the money, otherwise they wouldn´t be updating their system every week pissing their real customers with protections that are destroyed in days, and if you really believe they are winning man, then just don´t ever look at the list of games that are released two weeks before they are available at stores you are going to cry.......

Relax dude. Pirates pirate because of the convenience of having their games run off a HDD, and to combat high market prices. This jailbreaking method relieves neither.

Not sure why you'd bother with that, BD media discs still cost a ton of money...and then you have to buy the BD-RW drive, and then rent/download a game to burn it.

Pirates wont waste their time with this.

Wow, this sucks. Now companies can yell at us for pirating and have "justification" for online passes. And Sony can give us a bunch of firmware updates. In the end, it's really us that suffer because of some stupid pirates >.>

For $45, you could get two greatest hits games. And when you have money and want more games, buy them.

It's cause you have to pay to play Xbox online. These cheap @ssholes want to spend as little as money as possible.....so the majority take advantage of Sony's kind gesture not to charge them for online gaming.

I wonder how much longer that is going to last, before Sony says F it and starts charging? These idiots are ruining their own fun by stealing games. >.O

You think people who pirate on xbox 360 won't pay for xbox live? What is it like 9.99 a month and its like 59.99 for a game? The monthly payment will justify the cost of the game. I know your mad because of these pirates on your psn, truth is those are the same pirates from the psp, ps2 and ps1. So all sony systems were dealt with piracy in their years. This is nothing new.

One way to stop this is with threats:

Every time I get an "update" (pretty much every time I boot the PS3 up), I'll send a box filled with the following to a random person in Indonesia: E.T., Daikatana, Shaq-Fu, Superman 64, Street Fighter: The Movie, Platoon, Hannah Montana: The Movie: The Game, Kasumi Ninja, Corpse Killer, Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy, Sonic The Hedgehog 2006, and a Bandai Pippin.

There. Kill two birds with one stone.

so to defeat the crippling PS3 piracy epidemic, you're going to send him games that are arguably better, and made more money so far than PSN 's Exclusives, i.e. "games that even the shovels refuse to associate with" shovelware ?

makes sense, i suppose. easier than sending a sega gamegear nintendo virtualboy or jaguar lynx in the mail... ...
