@Timjoy I wonder.

"providing sales and marketing resources that North American PC publisher Atari likely wouldn't be able to provide for a console launch."

I just hope this doesn´t mean that WB forces them to change their priorities of the future games that they release Aka: consoles first pc. waaay later.......

They're not owned by Warner, they just have a one time publishing deal. They can release their next game however they please.

Hopefully they won't be proving the DLC codes either.

Sooooooooo elaborate pre-order schemes and lots of disc-locked content? And a totally forced incorporation of the online pass?

Can't wait to see how they **** up the launch and DLC. MK and Batman suffered directly because of WB's mindless marketing schemes.

And WB lobotomized Ed Boon to make him into a corporate parrot. That was even sadder.

Advice for WB: Just give us the damn game. Don't get cute with online passcodes & dlc schemes. Just give us the experience we expect and deserve as consumers. We will buy it.

I imagine that's how they'll get you, by including a DLC voucher with new copies.

The 360 version is going to be the 2.0 that we got as PC gamers just recently, any additional content will be included with the 360 version.

I actually think the game's release on the 360 is a good thing.

I'm not a PC elitist by any means (as my point will prove I hope) because any additional revenue for CD Projekt RED is well deserved. Its a fantastic game and console gamers should have the change to play it (and give their money to the developer!).

Plus, this will probably mean that there's going to be more single player DLC coming!

Bah! Your money goes to the retailer you bought the game from. Not the publisher and certainly not the developers. This "support the devs" dogma has gotten out of hand and created an environment for online pass codes and locked content schemes to flourish at the cost of a simple & enjoyable consumer experience.

Sales of a game most certainly has an effect how much money a publisher and a dev winds up making, and most certainly influences prospects for a sequel.

It's not like Walmart steals all their game discs from the back of a truck. What you're saying is ridiculous.

But the companies have gotten used to using the support the devs thing as a way to cry about these mythical "lost sales" from used games.

I also fail to understand why gamers feel altruistic towards these companies; after all, I may go to Walmart to buy things, but I don't have this overwhelming feeling of guilt if I go to another store instead. I don't feel the need to "support Walmart" or to "support Honda" or to "support Nike". It's silly.

The developers were paid long ago to do their job by their corporate masters, and that is to make the game.

The money from the game sales goes to the retailers, distributors, and publishers. It's pure profit for everyone BUT the devs.

Wake up and stop letting the companies convince you the "poor, poor developers" are starving and scraping roadkill off the side of the street for dinner.

You got it the other way around, the game sells, the Publisher gets the most money out of your $60 and then THEY PAY THE DEVELOPER THEIR SALARIES AND R&D FOR ANOTHER WITCHER.

YOUR $60 > PUBLISHER (and fees like paying retailer, distributor) > DEVELOPER

Right, the devs were already paid, and sales have no influence on them whatsoever. That's why nearly every flop this generation has led to a developer being shuttered, whether the game is good or not.

It's not a direct influence, but it's an influence all the same.

Studios being shuttered is because the PUBLISHERS weren't happy with what happened 9 times out of 10. Blame Rockstar for shutting down Bondi and stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Seriously, why do you give a shit who your money goes to?

Dude, publishers close down developers when the games they make don't sell well. Look at Pandemic Studios and Bizzare, great developers but their games just didn't sell so their publisher decided not to support them anymore.

Therefore, you want a game to sell well so the publisher continues funding the developer so they continue making awesome games! I don't understand why its so hard to understand that lol.

@Red Runner

Of course the publisher shutters the dev. But nine times out of ten it's due to poor sales. Rockstar and Bondi is the one example when it wasn't.

The idea that buying a game doesn't support developers is objectively false. Yes, the three twenties I give to the clerk at Best Buy don't directly wind up in Ken Levine's pocket, but more sales equals more shipped units which equals more money for the publisher which equals more royalties for the independent devs and better projects/budgets for the in house ones, and it lessens the chance a dev will be closed.

I don't know about you, but I like getting great new games from good developers.

OK. I fully expect you to buy your next car brand new out of some bizarre desire to make sure whoever built your Honda/Toyota/Chrysler/Chevy/etc. gets paid.

Funny, that level of abstraction is exactly how people explain how the used game market actually benefits the industry, but for some reason it gets dismissed as an immeasurable thought experiment when we do it. Go figure.

Casting? The headline made me think the article was about WB finding new voice actors for the Xbox 360 release of Witcher 2.

Is it supposed to mean casting in the sense of casting metal?

WB seems to becoming a pretty good publisher as of late. Obviously some of you hate their DLC style, but I don't find it to be any different than the other major publishers. Good for them, we need another big guy besides EA and Activision, if for no other reason than competition between them.
