The Blizzard Entertainment developers are walking through the biggest features of the newly announced Mists of Pandaria expansion, and while you can head on over to our sister site at WoW Insider for all of the details, there was one big new feature that we couldn't ignore. Players have been able to collect pets in the World of Warcraft for quite a while now, but a new Pet Battle System will come with the next expansion that allows players to both customize their pets with new names and other items, and even battle each other.
And if you think that sounds a little bit like Pokemon, you're not wrong at all. The battle system, which Blizzard's lead designer Cory Stockton walked through, will have players choosing three pets to fight with at a time, turn-based battles using three abilities per battle (out of six), and even "Master Trainers" which can be beaten around the world of Azeroth to unlock new abilities.
Pets can be obtained in all kinds of different ways, and there will be new "wild pets" that can only be found out in the world (in Goldshire, the devs suggested, while it's raining, during the Spring, only at night). Blizzard has given away special pets during holidays, at events like BlizzCon, and even sold pets for real money on the store. As if World of Warcraft needed to be any more addictive, Blizzard has somehow figured out a way to include their own version of Pokemon inside of it.

Ok, seriously, what the hell is with the font Joystiq is using for their stories?

I think it's Calibri: it looks very similar to the Word 2010 default font.
They should have gone with Comic Sans MS. Now *that's* classy.

You do realize that Pokemon is owned by Nintendo right? Why would Nintendo let another developer use their Pokemon music in an unrelated game?

Apparently Blizzard is worried about Pokemon and Guild Wars 2, because those are the two games they've seemingly ripped off the most for this Panda expac.

What do you expect? We've just killed off Deathwing, and in terms of powerful foes left that leaves us only with Old Gods or the big man himself, Sargeras.
If Acti-Blizz did expansions for just those two, they'd miss out on a couple years of subscriptions, millions of boxes sold including overpriced collector editions, and more.
Thanks to this expansion, they can throw in some absurd one-time only villain, vaguely link him to the rest of the lore, all while charging us $10-15 for premium "battle pets" for this new mini-game crap.
Plus, it gave them a chance to completely generify the talent system, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it dumped entirely with the next expansion, seeing as this would be the 2nd major Talent overhaul in 2 expansions, in a row.

What about the emerald dream? What about the Titatns? The amount of Lore in Warcraft is insane. This expansion is more about trying to keep people interested in WoW amidst the launch of TOR and less about making a good game with the rich Lore at their disposal.

The Emerald Dream, or what you are most likely thinking of the Emerald Nightmare (what we have had to deal with), is most likely being caused by the Old Gods, so the Old God expansion would cover that.
As for the Titans, why would we go after them? They aren't an evil force, they are the makers and were the ones who imprisoned the old gods in the first place. The only "Titan" we would go after, I already listed, who is Sargeras.

Like you said, Sargeras is a Titan. I would imagine with him involved would have all the Titans involved in some form or way. The Emerald Dream is too big of a place to clump into a single zone in an expansion. Either the Blizz makes the expansion involving the Old Gods take place through the Emerald Dream or the place gets its own expansion. It could focus on making single old god the main enemy and lead up to an expansion focusing on them all.

I'm not sure I follow? Is that a bad thing? Does every expansion need to progress the "main" story by bringing up a different major character to kill? And Metzen said that this is the expansion that is going to rekindle the Alliance vs Horde rivalry. As of late it's been getting really buddy-buddy so why not dedicate an expansion to rekindle the hatred between them?
Also this IS lore it's just not world ending lore. It's a lore I'm very interested in the Pandarians. Maybe you don't care about the panda people but I do. I've always wanted to see their world and all the cool things they have to offer. I am excite!

About the time I realized I wanted to physically stab Brad and Smedly was when they put Tetris into EQ to make the timesink of staring at your spellbook for minutes at a time more palatable.
HONESTLY, we couldn't even stare at the giant pixilated world, we had to stare at our spellbook!
