@StarcasM They hated working with Microsoft because of the way the treated them. Microsoft made a lot of verbal promises to them and didn't keep them. One of those promises was that the game would be heavily promoted by Microsoft, not just word-of-mouth. They also said that they called Microsoft to put the game on sale at least once and they always said no. I guess a year later they finally said yes.

But the next time you say you say you hate your job at Target, I'll feel bad for the corporation.

@StarcasM That is an awful reason to not get the game. Quality is quality.

Brendan McNamara beat and ravaged the naked bodies of Team Bondi employees, but I still bought that game, no regrets!

Yeah they were complaining because they didn't get to be part of any sales. Behold the irony.

Working for Microsoft was like working in a concentration camp, according to the developers.
With words like that they put off a future customer.

Because when super meat boy was launched I never saw it plastered left right and centre all over my dashboard, and it was never on sale for the first month or two that it launched.

I fail to relate they experience working at Microsoft and a buyers' choice. If there's a lesson to be learned here it should be "do not work for Microsoft".

@This Little Man Says His Name Is

That's sarcasm right? The game was all over the dashboard for the first month it came out, and of course it wasn't on sale in the first 2 months... What the hell kind of arcade/downloadable game has a sale price in the first 2 months.

@Undulation Propaganda to make the consumer think MSFT is so evil.. What major corporation Isn't? They as well as Sony used it against MSFT to sell copies on the ps3, nothing more.

You don't like their practices.. You whine and blow it up to sell more copies on another console, then come running back to XBL to sell us part two? Screw them. Hope the sell no copies so they can run back to sony like little spoiled children.

@OwningXylophone

Half of that went right over your head. The game WAS on sale for the first couple months of its existence.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/19/super-meat-boy-on-sale-for-800-ms-points-at-launch/

And like you said, SMB was all over the dashboard even before its launch. I can't believe these guys complain about lack of exposure when the dashboard promo for the Game Feast was a GIANT picture of Super Meat Boy with two itty-bitty games in front of him.

Yes it was sarcasm.

Also as someone above me pointed out, the game launched at 800 points which is not its regular sale price. They launched it at a discount which it stayed at for the first month or so before it went up to 1200.

Well, if this isn't a Gold-exclusive sale I might consider it. I've already got the game on PC but it'd be nice to have it on 360 as well.

I didn't pay $15 for a glorified flash game then and I aint paying anything above $0.00 for it now.

And seriously you hate on XBLA and then pretend it's all good by putting the game on sale? Even if I was interested in this game, I wouldn't buy it due to their stupid 'reasons' and ethics.
It wasn't promoted you say? I guess the weeks of seeing the game on the dashboard front page and then again when it went on sale wasn't promotion enough. What did they want? A full blown as campaign on tvs and everything?

Get a life an actually make proper games that I can't play for free on a browser

Your comment just oozes of knowledge. I can totally see you are an experienced programmer with at least 20 years in the field.

BTW, I'm not defending the game or it's creators, I didn't even buy it. I'm just against blatant stupidity.

Let's not say things we can't take back. There's not one single game on iOS in any version of reality across the infinite expanse of the multiverse that is even worthy of holding the tissue that gently dabs Meat Boy's ass after he shits.

Wow, there is a ton of misinformation in here.

Team Meat didn't "hate on" Microsoft. They were offered a spot in the Microsoft Game Feast if they finished their game way earlier when they planned to. Microsoft promised several extra promotion deals Team Meat felt they needed to succeed on XBLA (like a feature by Major Nelson, high profile ad space, extra spots at PAX, exclusive launch week) so they rushed production to meet the deadline and nearly killed themselves through overworking. Then the promises by the PR people never materialized.

They didn't say working with Microsoft was terrible, they said working ridiculous hours to get included in a lackluster promotion was a bad move on their part, and were understandably upset when Microsoft bumped them when Games Feast wasn't a success.

For the full story check out the post mortem. Genuinely interesting read.

2010 GOTY In my opinion, but then again I'm a masochist.

I can see how some people aren't into the old-school 2D punishing platformers referring to them as "flash games" but as someone that grew up on Castlevania, Super Mario Bros 3, Sonic The Hedgehog and others this game's style, difficulty, control and nostalgic homages couldn't have been more perfect.

Plus the sheer amount of levels, unlockables, bonus stages, characters, free downloadable content, etc. make this a bargain even at $15, especially so at a reduced price.

I grew up on those games too but any game where the developer said it was akin to working in a Nazi concentration camp. If Nintendo said it you can jolly well believe I wouldn't buy another one of their consoles or software.

2010 was a great year in gaming. It'd be a sad state of affairs if anyones crowning game of that year was made by those people.

When it came out, it was 800 points as an introductory offer of sorts for the first month. Then I think it's either been deal of the week or a part of some other sale (Christmas or Black Friday maybe) at 800 again so unless they go lower than that, it doesn't seem too big a deal.

More levels is good though.
