We get it. Everybody deserves to come home from a long day at the office and embrace a loved one, whether it be an actual human being, a pet or just a really awesome pillow. In this case, it's all pillow. Get it? Get it?!
Ahem, sorry -- Nintendo's latest Club Nintendo Platinum goodie for Japan (yeah, we're upset, too) has us all aflutter with excitement. It's the very awesome Mario pillow you see above, available as one of three different freebies for Platinum members. The other two freebies up for grabs are two table calendars or two different soundtracks, from a total of five, though we know eligible members would never go against the pillow. Because that'd just be insane.

Stuff like this makes me want to... punch whoever is in charge of NA's Club Nintendo...

Why stop at just NA's Club Nintendo? Hit them at the top, Nintendo of America is a joke.
Terrible localization rate, with so many classics left unreleased in the US (which wouldn't be so bad if NCL wasn't unwilling to work with third party publishers like Sony or even Microsoft have when they aren't interested in localizing their own games - see Demon's Souls, WKC2, Phantom Dust). Terrible Virtual Console support that has all but been dead for the past year or two. Terrible Club Nintendo rewards, on top of the fact that they took so damn long to get Club Nintendo to begin with... that the rewards suck is just salt in the wound, especially after they tried hyping it having finally arrived.
Reggie deserves that punch.

I hope this is next year's gift for NA's Platinum members. I only hit Platinum the first year of Club Nintendo, and so far it's the only year that seems to have been worth reaching that status, so I guess I've been lucky.

Already ordered mine!
It'll ship in March next year, apparently.
Awesome.
Contrary to NoA, Nintendo of Japan is actually still pretty awesome.

NoA has yet to discover the power things like this have over consumers. It often seems seems like they're dumb enough to think it's a charity rather than something that'd ultimately boost sales of new games. Japan's figured it out. Europe's figured it out. Reggie? ...

I'll wait till a bunch pop up on ebay and buy one. My giant game center prize mushroom pillow is awesome, now this one will compliment it. Heh heh...

So, take a foam block and cut it out in this shape and then glue felt or some other fabric on top (Jo-ann is whoring the stuff out everywhere...)
I actually would prefer the figures we got last year over this. I mean, this is neat but when it's an 8 bit character pillow it really isn't that hard recreate for yourself and you can make the flip-side a small luigi if you wanted.
Or, give the little bastard a power mushroom and have one side be his flower powerup colors.

Agreed. I sadly didn't have platinum level last year, achieved it this year, and was disappointed to hear the "reward" was pins. After a stunning piece like last year's I was hoping for something similar. Not that I really care all that much, free is free, but man that was an awesome looking piece. Also remember hearing the year prior was a replica Mario hat. Wouldn't have minded that one, either.

I don't know about you guys but I'm really starting to see the real value in the so-called "crappy" US Platinum rewards. Maybe the Japanese are totally envious of our 2011 calendars, huh? Or maybe they wish they had a Mario hat? Oh, what's that? They already got theirs?
Oh.
Well... then.

Outside of Japan, the loyalty schemes Nintendo offers are absolutely rubbish. I thought when I moved from Europe to the US, it would get better, but it doesn't.
Gamestop's PowerUp Rewards programme is far better. I got a Batman t-shirt yesterday without even having to do anything, versus a tote bag for filling in a bunch of surveys.
