Is the "Five" really necessary?

@RasenganFury

As you may see it is a visual link to banknotes that writes the number in letters ie: "one hundred dollars".

@RasenganFury Sadly it is, I've had people ask for Grand Theft Auto "I" "v" before.

@RasenganFury It's pretty clearly a reference to dollar bills in design.

Be prepared to restrain laughter if someone comes in asking for "GRAND THEFT AUTO V-FIVE", like some whacked out FINAL FANTASY sub-sequel with dress spheres(X-2) or a tacked-on addition to a story what wasn't worth a damn in the first place(XIII-2).

Grand Theft Auto V5? No way, I'd much rather steal a V6 or a V8.

Considering how many people I still hear call Final Fantasy X "Final Fantasy 'eks'" yes I do think it's required.

Yah it kind of is sadly. Most middle school aged kids no longer know their roman numerals or how to read an analog clock.

Its sad that its come to this.

I do call it "EF EF EKS" just like I call it "O S EKS"

V is different, it doesn't sound as cool as X

oddly enough every clock with roman numerals has IIII for a 4 in stead of IV.

but apparently it's considered correct because the romans never used IV for 4. So Grand Theft Auto 4 used the wrong roman numeral (if you are going by the old rules)

I always called OS X "Oh Ess Ecks". Isn't that the right name for it?

But "GTA V-FIVE" is a pretty rediculous logo. :)

Who wants to bet this game will be ported to the iPad with tacked-on touchscreen controls? Anyone? Anyone care to bet?

@tendoboy1984 "Mac OS Ten" is the correct pronunciation. The reason the roman numeral was used was to differentiate it from OS 9, since the architecture was completely different.

http://danielmiessler.com/blog/how-to-pronounce-os-x-proof-from-apple

"Final Fantasy Ten" is correct, but on the other hand, "Mega Man X" is right because X was never meant to be Mega Man 10.

@MatthewJ I'm looking at some bills now(1, 5, 10, 50, and 100). The only bill that has a word superimposed over a number is the one. In its case the one is written in a simple font, not curved over a scroll. None of our bills use roman numerals. None of the numbers use the texture that is on the "V" in the logo. All of the written out numbers on American bills are a white font outlined in black not a black font outlined in white. This logo has virtually nothing definitively in common with U.S. money.

I don't have a problem with the five having a money look. They need to do it correctly. Make it the numeral "5" and use a texture that is actually used on our money. I would not be surprised if the logo is changed. Its an insult to my intelligence. I know what a five dollar bill looks like.

There is an additional problem. If they are trying to evoke the style of American money, people from other countries might not get it.

And yet, most will still think of a $5 bill *instantly* because the image evokes it. It's called artistic license. We get the point.

You must be one of those people that complains about the GetaLife Building in GTA because - hey - that's inaccurate, and the real one is actually called the MetLife Building! Oh no!

My bet is that the game will feature more than one city a la San Andreas but bigger. Why? Do you guys remember when GTA IV came out? the consensus was that the Xbox version was holding back PS3 version and then there were tech rumors that the game could be expanded with islands like Burnout yet it never happened and GTA V is taking too long even with a proved good engine in place.

5 cities why not?

I get what you are saying, however there have been some US bills that have roman numerals as well as the numbers.

http://www.pollsb.com/photos_handler/o/391646-five_dollar_bill_1896_called_united_states_beautiful_piece_paper_money.jpg

That is a bill from 1896. I know it is NOWHERE near the new style of paper money, still is proof that the US has in fact used the combination as some point.

The actualy gameplay style was better than previous iterations. The problem most people had is it lacked all the whacky mission specific vehicles and hijinks in general of previous games.

I agree. I thought IV made so many advances in so many areas, but definitely took a step back in terms of fun and "teh funny". At least, until the expansions came out - those added a lot of fun and humor for me.

@Teus I hope they stick with the serious plot and subject matter. If you want over-the-top hilarity in an open world game, go buy Saints Row.

I personally found GTA IV to be the most fun in the series.

I also hope they return to the epic crazy style of the last games but GTA4 was nowhere near anything less than AAA. Not being as good as the previous games still leaves plenty of room for it to be a very good game and one of the best of this generation.

Given how long theyve been working on it Im thinking it will bring back the epicness of San Andreas. 4 years is an awful long time for a GTA when they arent building a new engine.
