Honestly, this one slipping to February wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Who has time to play 3 Metal Gear games this winter?

@Hoops
You know what, I'm getting most of the new releases this year and I am loving them all. Just this month I've bought Batman, Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3. Next month I'll get Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim.

And STILL, the one game(s) that I am looking more forward to playing this year is this one(s).

Gotta love Japan. The only country to be slow (lazy) with NTSC-to-PAL conversion. This ain't as long as the wait for KH2 was, but dammit they're trying...

i believe the twin snakes version is owned by nintendo (or someone owned by nintendo?) as they fronted the money for the remake

A lot of legal business that they'd rather not have to deal with is why it's not included. Besides, Kojima said that since he already did a remake for MGS1 he wouldn't just want to port it. If MGS1 were ever to re-release on 360 or PS3 it would be a complete remake

Mr. AWESOMECAPS is correct. Though I would rather a HD version of MGS1 rather than the TWIN SNAKES "attempt". That ... 'thing' was "bampalamp"-crazy.

...What?

It was!

Solid Snake kicks off a fired Harrier jet missile, spins, produces a Stinger missile launcher, and returns fires upon the hapless Liquid Snake. In another scene, he literally cartwheels out of the way of minigun fire. It was like a porno for John Woo and Michael Bay! x_X

The Japanese version does because their HD collection only contains MGS 2/3 while Eu opes/NA's collection has MGS2/3/5(Peace Walker).

As I recall the cutscenes for Twin Snakes were directed by the guy who did the cutscenes for DMC3, the guy who directed the Japanese movie Versus.

What does the author mean when they said "Hideo Kojima's playful, odd and utterly Byzantine stealth saga. (Well, most of it)"

What do they mean by Byzantine? Wikipedia didn't help me understand how the Byzantine Empire is relevant to MGS, perhaps it's only in the author's mind....

@BlueRajasmyk

If you really want to find out why, you should start listening to their podcasts. They said that they would love to have included it in the collection but they felt it deserved more than a port. If MGS1 ever does re-release, it will be in a complete remake

is the subsistence part true, does it include MG and MG2?

the MGS collection on the PS2 a couple years ago only had disc 1 which only had the directors cut of MGS3

Yes it is the Subsistence version and yes MG and MG2 are included. One of the latest launch trailer in Japan had footage of the two games in it.

Is it confirmed that MG1 and 2 are in this? I keep seeing it in stories about this collection but those were on the second disc and that was removed when they released the MGS Essential Collection.

that's good. I was worried when Joystiq was talking about the UK version for a second that they might have meant NA. Thanks for clearing that up

Yo dawg, we heard you liked ports, so we put a port in your port in your port in your Subsistence so you can play ports.

I considered picking up the Limited Edition, but eventually decided that I didn't need to put down another $30 when I'm already running pretty low on extra money.

I'm happy with getting three upgraded, top-notch last-gen games and a few extras for $50.

Wait... on Amazon it says "the 'Limited Edition' will include a never before released 250 page" in its description.

I know japan gets the premium edition with 450 page art book and the vocal soundtrack, for an extra of 50 bucks on top of the NA limited edition...

is the NA version packed with the 450 page book or the 250 page book...?

or is it like Japan - 450page, EU - 450page, NA - 250page?
I'll be really pissed off if that's the case...

"The Subsistence edition of MGS3 also includes Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake."

Has Konami said that? The version of MGS3: Subsistence released in the Metal Gear Solid Essentials Collection didn't include them, so if you're assuming this bundle does without actually checking, you're very likely wrong.

Hmm...Uncharted 3 on Nov. 1. mw3 on Nov. 8. Skyrim on Nov. 11. Saints Row the 3rd on Nov. 15.

Truly, what genius of marketing at Konami decided this would be a good date to release the MGS HD collection?

MGS1 is probably being re-worked in some form or another using the MGS4 engine. Which is why it is not being included in this bundle, b/c it wouldn't make sense to HD-ify a game that can't be made to look awesome without re-creating it from scratch.

Bye bye MONEY!
I was just waiting for this HD remix to replay these games (I still own their previous incarnations but we get pickier and pickier as time goes by) and FINALLY buy a PS3 and play me some MGS4.
Really looking forward to it!
