Funcom's Ragnar Tørnquist has confirmed to VideoGamer that classic point-and-click adventure The Longest Journey is heading to the iOS. Tørnquist evidently didn't offer up any further details about the port, including when it will actually be released. We can only hope our sausage-like meat-hooks are up to pixel-hunting on the iPhone's diminutive screen.
Oh and, Mr. Tørnquist, we realize you're busy with The Secret World (and now this newly announced port), but iOS would be a great platform for those Dreamfall Chapters. You know, the ones you promised? Just saying.

Call me a weird, old-fashioned stickler, but... I think adventure games should really stay on the PC. There's something about having a big close-up screen that you can lean into that really brings out the best of in adventure games. I can't imagine playing, say, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on a phone.
Just like how AAA shooters are probably best on consoles and games like Angry Birds are made for phones, I think adventure games are really best played on a computer
That said, it's really great for this one to get a bigger audience!

@Oddgirl Prolly phrased that wrong, I was thinking of the giant big-budget, sit-on-the-couch-and-look-at-crazy-setpieces kinds of games. Mouse and keyboard forever. :)
I still don't know about adventure games on phones though. The touch interface works really well for navigating, interacting, etc., but I feel like the visuals and atmosphere are just as big of a part as the gameplay. Admittedly, I don't have a smartphone and haven't tried any of the ports, but I can't imagine The Dig working without a big screen and a full sound system.

I thought The Longest Journey for most people was waiting for PSN to go back up after the apocalyps3.

10,000 times YES!!! I own two legal copies of this game, but neither runs well in emulation on my mac. I try to boot camp it, and that works great, but the game is a little too slow paced, and I wind up rebooting back to OS X before I get anywhere. Then I'm reluctant to reboot back. Being able to pick-up-and-play the game in bits and pieces on the go will probably be the missing ingredient I needed to actually make progress in this game!

OMG, I just realized I own this game on steam. Hell it's even on my desktop...
I should really get around to playing it.

Pixel-hunting? I'd call that an insult to a well made point-and-click like this. Maybe nowadays you can get away with calling a "hunt the item" game a point-and-click adventure, but but a few short years ago when this was made, you'd have been attacked on the street. I think it should work fine on a small screen.
Anyway, this wasn't really aimed at anyone here, but more a rant caused by my hatred of hidden item games being counted point-and-click adventure games.
Sorry everyone.
