everything about the jeff wayne musical version is top notch, but you're the only person i've ever encountered who knows anything about it.

with halloween coming, you've reminded me, it's time for a listen.

@fid The Jeff Wayne musical is immensely popular, what are you talking about? it was just recently re-released on CD too, alongside showings in London.

I pretty much completely agree, based on the demo I played. This game is absolutely amazing in terms of visuals, the voicework, and the writing. But man, the gameplay just falls completely flat. Awkward platforming mixed with annoying difficulty.

I looked at the screenshots on XBLA and it looks really cheap looking.

I looked at it too and I didn't get that impression at all. It looked like a well made game, but I am glad I read this review, because I hate frustrating deaths.

@HaVoK308 Am I missing something here? I don't see what's so childish about having an opinion.

I don't understand why I can't voice an opinion on this site without being down ranked into oblivion. Thank you for your maturity.

If you know that, why do you still bother?
I had the opposite impression, BTW. This review dissapointed me, unfortunatelly.

Actually I agree. The overall audiovisual quality is pretty good, but as I played it I couldn't help but feel like it had been created using something like multimedia fusion or another consumer-lever "game maker" engine.

The subject matter is one of my favorite novels ever, and Patrick Stewart did an excellent job as mentioned in the review, so it's all the more disappointing that the gameplay itself was so lackluster.

Kind of sounds like Heart of the Alien, in regards to difficulty.

DL'd the demo and didn't like the game. While it has good production quality, it just doesn't seem to know whether it wants to be PoP or Limbo (another platformer which I wasn't too crazy about). It doesn't help matters any that the platforming mechanics are incredibly clunky and unresponsive.

This is a lousy game released at a lousy time. Every gamer with a limited budget is saving their money for Skyrim in two weeks. And those of us who can afford more games just don't care about anything where we can't shoot lightning bolts from our hands and stab things with enchanted swords.

Wow, I just finished playing Infamous: FoB AND Shadow of the Colossus AND I don't want this game.. But I could care less for Skyrim. The rest of my year is Uncharted 3 and studying. Maybe I'll get to some backlog stuff like Bioshock or Mass Effect 2.

@tehixe Nothing against Skyrim but I have no intention of picking it up any time soon, if at all.

Tried the demo. I agree with the review.

I think the game was a little too inspired by "Limbo". Trying to strike the same artsy chord, but not quite hitting it. From a audio/visual standpoint, it sort of comes off as a prettier Bram Stoker's Dracula on the Sega CD (remember THAT?).

The gameplay itself is ok. Even Limbo had it's moments of trial and error. But unlike Limbo, nearly all errors in WOTW are fatal ones. This game is not for the impatient or easily frustrated.

Maybe I missed something, but the review sounded like it was 90% difficulty that governed the 2 star score, other than a quick mention of one section where a box slid too much for comfort. And yet, Dark Souls and Demon's Souls got 4.5 and 4 stars, respectively, both being adored for their difficulty.
Again, maybe I missed something in there after reading it again, but it seems odd to me.

There's a difference between difficult because it's clunky and difficult intentionally.

That's a fair point, sure, but the review only cited one example of clunky, and otherwise mentioned how the game was punishingly difficult. To run around and praise one game for punishing you for mistepping with a near instant death, then pan another for punishing you for mistepping with an instant death, seems wrong to me. Especially considering, at least in the GiantBomb Quick Look with two of the devs who made this game, they intended it to be frustratingly difficult. Difficult to the point that one of the devs who designed one sequence took ten-something minutes to finish it (and resorted to a debug menu to skip past it in the interest of saving some time).
