Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City chasing down Leon on March 20, 2012
33
Grab your vial of T-Virus antidote and a swath of bullets, as Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is set to launch just five short months from now on March 20, 2012. Unfortunately for PC owners, the wait will be a bit longer, as the game will initially launch on just Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the PC version launching at an unnamed date after that.
Beyond revealing the launch date, Capcom also ran down the contents of the game's "Special Edition," which contains a "Steelbook with exclusive art," an "Umbrella Security Service" patch, a "stylized foil sleeve" (what?), a "Spec Ops Field Unit" patch, and eight bonus weapons. And hey, if you pre-order at GameStop, BestBuy, or Amazon, you'll snag yourself a bonus outfit for each of the game's playable characters. Maybe it'll make Bertha look less creepy, eh?

Based upon what little you wrote and what I first thought when I saw patch the first time in the post I'm gonna assume you think it's talking about game patches.
It's actually talking about these kind: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch

Isn't that the same day as Mass Effect 3? Guess they have as little faith in this game as everyone else.

Onimusha 4, Devil May Cry 3, Ultimate G'NG, Zack & Wiki, Mega Man ZX, Street Fighter IV, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Dead Rising, Mega Man Powered Up, and Ghost Trick are all pretty good, if not excellent, IMHO.
Okami, God Hand, Killer7, amd a little series called "Ace Attorney".... I would worship any creature that formed such turds!

@Nook I agree. RE4 was a complete masterpiece in every sense of the word, but after that, they've definitely been dropping some lame titles. I can't really think of any Capcom game I've enjoyed since about 2006.
Funny thing is, Capcom seemed to be at its most creative during the Gamecube era. Something about that console really got them working. Amazing traditional RE games, RE4, Viewtiful Joe... The list just piles up.
Wonder what happened...

You are right, that's when that had that special branch together to release 4 titles altogether (Viewtiful Joe, PN04, RE4, and I forget the last one).
Probably is, outside of RE4, none of the others were commercially successful, so I guess at that point they decided to take a different business route (the one involving the collaboration with Western studios).

I'm done with RE until I see a proper survivor horror title. This is coming from a huge fan that have all the games, many with multiple versions like RE original long case PS1 version, RE Director's Cut (PS1), Japanese RE1 Director's Cut (PS1), RE Deadly Silence (DS), RE Remake (GC), RE remake (archives for Wii), RE1 Director's Cut (PSN), RE1 on Saturn. These are just RE1 alone, the only one that I don't have is the PC version.

My problem with the Resident Evil series is not its change in perspective, game mechanics, et cetera, but more its shift in style. RE started out as a relatively western-themed survival horror game. It was, to a certain extent, believable. But, unfortunately, they Japanified it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be racist or anything- I love a lot of things about Japan, but they really over-did it. Particularly in RE5, things started to seem less like a believable western horror story and more like something that belongs in an anime show. I just couldn't take it anymore. Like I said, there are plenty of Japanese games I love, but you can't have such a huge paradigm shift in attitude and expect people with western sensibilities, like myself, to come along for the ride.
Now of course, even RE4 could be accused of this, but it still wasn't as prevelant as it was in RE5, and the game was just so damn good you can forgive it. RE5 on the other hand was like RE4 but unnecessarily slimmed down and filled with more anime-esque crapola that nobody (at least me) wanted to see.
Not everything needs to have tentacles burst out of it. Zombies were fine.

Do you mean...anime-style like the punching of large rocks?
RE5 was basically a trying to turn Resident Evil into an all-action style, even moreso than RE4. It didn't quite work. I mean, I had fun nonetheless but the mechanics of the controls don't lend themselves to furious gun battles, as shown by the awkwardness of the last portion of the game.

For the amount of investment they already poured into it (although the 2nd one bombed), they should try again. The consoles are now all set up for online connectivity and so everybody can enjoy the title instead of just the rare few who could afford all the extra junk for the ps2.
I played it a little but at the time, and Outbreak 1 was fun. The only thing that stopped if from doing better was the lack of voice chat, they tried doing the pre-canned messaging thing like Demon's Souls, that didn't fly back then.

Do you guys think that this game is going to be as fun as RE4 and RE5? Because It does not look even remotely close to any of those titles.

Yeah, it doesn't have the appearance of the earlier titles, but I'm willing to at least give it a try if the reviews aren't completely horrible.
I know what the RE purists mean when they want the old style of game back...there's a certain art style to it and gameplay mechanics that I really enjoyed, but not everybody would be happy about it if Capcom had continued along with that path. Reviewers of RE3 like the title but even they were already complaining back then that nothing had changed and that they were getting bored, even if large numbers of fans weren't tired of the controls and the gameplay.

@kentuckyfried I see...I think that if gets anything under a 7.0 for a rating I'll then probably wait for a price drop or something.

They should just re do RE2 and 3 (and throw in 0 as a bonus for preorder with 2) and then let this franchise rest in the grave...
