Goldeneye 007: Reloaded wants to prove it isn't an old fogie, so it has dubstep
77
Goldeneye 007: Reloaded nods to our nostalgia but with better graphics and smoother action sequences in a setting we all played and loved. For precisely this reason, Activision and Eurocom decided to put dubstep in the latest Reloaded trailer. Oh, sorry -- we meant, "For no reason whatsoever." Common mistake.
This does make us wonder what the reception would have been to the above video had it released in 1997. Probably a barrage of praise for its industry-shattering graphics, and a lot of muttering about unnecessarily synthesized bass lines and kids these days.

What's the artistic draw to dubstep? One of the fads I'll probably never understand nor enjoy. :(

There is definitely a draw to good dubstep. Unfortunately most of the songs used in these trailers does not fall into that category.
This is a typical case of a unique new genre being bastardized because the producers jump on an element of it and exploit it.
And for those of you that have only been exposed to this side of it give this tune a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soaAo8sx3Yc

It has been around for a while, i don't consider it a fad any more than grunge or disco.
oh shit, i think i just proved your point.
Either way, I like all of the above so... sue me. I like dubstep, probably because I like almost all european electronic music.

Even if it is a fad, that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. Grunge proved that, I still listen to Nirvana and STP and Alice in Chains every now and then.
Disco....not so much.

I must have been conceived on the soul train, because I love disco, funk, acid jazz, R n B, and everything in between.
Oddly enough, I wasn't alive when most of that was huge. I WAS alive when grunge was HUGE and I find i don't like it all that much. As much, anyway.

Well if you talk about all the people that just recently jumped onto it, they're just into it because it's new to them. I've been listening to Dubstep and Hardstyle for years and I knew it wasn't for everyone. I liked it for the huge bass drops and it just appealed to me. Even then, I know it's not for everyone. It's not meant to be, just like how no type of music is for everyone, though I listen to most types of music.

Honestly I think Dubstep makes Everything better... I'm 33 years old... Old enough to know BAD music... and it even Makes a Remix of LAdy Gaga tolerable enough to listen to.
It does, However require speakers capable of reproducing the 40-120hz frequency though, to FULLY enjoy.

an all around techno fan? i believe what you mean is that you're an all around "electronic music" fan, as techno is a genre of electronic music in and of itself, just like trance, idm, drum & bass, and dubstep. though it is debatable whether or not dubstep is a sub-genre of drum & bass. i like to think that it's not, because i actually like drum & bass, but i hate dubstep with a passion.

Well considering that the word "techno" has become the norm for speaking of "electronic music", I chose to use that. I should more often use the official term, you are correct.

Don't take it personal. All electronic music fans/musicians are very elitist when it comes to genres. I personally find it hilarious, because a lot of times you'll see bands that actually play real instruments telling you not to label them

that's not always the case. look at metal heads for example. they get all flustered if you "mis-label" a sub-sub-sub-genre of heavy metal, like you're not a TRUE fan unless you get it exactly right. what is dark metal, death metal, black metal, booty metal, what the f metal? beats me. :D
the labeling of musical genres never bothered me, except for the term "techno" encompassing all electronic music ever made. that one kind of bothers me due to the fact that i (to a fault) label it as a typical American ignorance thing because that's pretty much what it is. other than that, i could care less if someone calls a sub-genre of drum & bass neurofunk, techstep, jungle, or whatever. it's all dnb to me, and it's what i like, so i don't particularly enjoy when it's lumped in with trance, detroit techno, house, and all that other bullshit. wasn't trying to offend, Shadowbender.

@Undulation I'll inform you.
Dubstep is a music genre which has recently gotten quite some attention. It's main 'gimmick' is an irregular rythm and wobbly bass.
However some think that anything with anything with a bass added under it is good dubstep, giving the genre a bad name.

I just thought it was one of those joke musical things, like what Alih G used to play on HBO. Parody music. You know the kind.
Ever seen the movie Kev and Perry: Go Large? That's full of parody music too, but people would listen to it post watching because of how silly it was.

"Oh, sorry -- we meant, 'For no reason whatsoever.' Common mistake."
i'm pretty sure it's there for the same reason that any music is ever in a trailer...as bad as it may sound to us, at least it's modelled around that James Bond theme and is more effective than, say, Jay-Z playing on a Battlefield 3 trailer. now THAT's ridiculous.

That track sounds like it was made by some random employee of theirs who heard dubstep at some point or another and said, "Oh, yeah, I could totally make a track like that..." and then greenlit by people who have never heard dubstep before.

i guess the draw of good dubstep is the rhythmic electronic-laden beats... the draw of bad dubstep is being too wacked out on drugs to notice the difference...
that being said, somebody was definitely on something during the creation of this trailer.
