He's such a perfect fit in the SC world.

4 was fun but I was disappointed overall. 5 looks pretty slick so far. I'm hoping for a deeper single player experience.

Is there a RPG style mission mode, like there was in SC2?

After SC3 and SC4 I can't get excited from preview coverage anymore. This one I will wait until the game's released and people have serious hands on time and stuff to say about it. I bought 4 day 1 and didn't play it after the first week...hopefully this one is different...

Can I just put it out there................slowly.....Soul Calibur franchise is being destroyed. Over-designed art direction, silly unrelated characters, poor design choices aesthetically and gameplay wise, lack of a solid coherent single player mode with polish.

Think this way....some of you may be too young to remember Soul Blade and Soul Calibur 1 to realize how far from grace this franchise has become with the 'yoda's and all that......but I used to love the mythos and world and characters of this franchise. Now.......it seems they are turning the whole thing into a big attention-grabbing joke.

Disappointed....Mortal Kombat in 2011 has taught us one thing about franchise titles like this........remember what made you good in the first place and return to it. SC5, is shaping up to be unfortunately a skip for me.

The mythos? What mythos? The same mythos whose characters went everywhere and did everything because of "rumors"? Play Edgemaster Mode on SC1 and read some of the stuff they've written--nobody does anything in Soul Calibur's "mythos" unless there's "rumors" about it.

As for "silly" characters--in SC1 alone, you have a weaponized column of fire, a near-palette swap of two dudes with huge swords, and a barely dressed aristocrat with a "whip-sword." I'm sorry, but we went to "attention grabbing" the moment Ivy's chest showed up.

And I'm still baffled by fighting game players who want a "polished" single player mode. What's there for you? A good story? Fighting games never have well-told stories. The very model for the storytelling---mano a mano bouts between exceptional individuals in the game's universe, broken up by typically awful cutscenes--isn't good, so hanging pretty drapes on it isn't going to make it work. What about customization? Absolutely useless, 99% of the time, and doesn't figure into competitive play. So...what? What is included in a single player experience that you can't find in a well-done multiplayer experience?

What, are you tired of getting your ass kicked online?

@TheChezDispenser I can summarize your response in 3 unsaid truths: a) you CLEARLY didn't play Mortal Kombat in 2011 to see the EVOLUTION of what a fighting game single-player mode should do ...........b) you CLEARLY didn't play Soul Blade to understand what a fighting game single-player mode DID and STOPPED doing in this franchise......................c) the mythos of the discovery of the legendary sword was good in Soul Blade, still decent in Soul Calibur...and went completely ASS after that.....but at ONE POINT....the story was good and could have been fleshed out...ala: MK in 2011......

If you do not see the value in a solid single-player experience then you (again) need to go back and play a few GOOD fighting games with GOOD single-player modes to see how they really enhance the entire package.

and no im' not tired of getting my "ass kicked" online.....i've got pretty good win percentages....so this isn't based on NOT liking the multiplayer component....jackass jones.

@NOVAtr1be

The story was NEVER good! Hell, short of the Legacy short films, the story in MK 11 wasn't good! Listen, man, you talk about "good" like it can still be applied to the entire fighting game model, which isn't the case. Why are these particular characters fighting each other? Why do these mysterious organizations hold tournaments instead of, you know, just doing something less prone to would-be heroes mucking up their plans? Oh look there happens to be another adventurer doing the same thing, thanks to rumors!

I played plenty of Soul Blade and had the same friggin' questions there, too. So this evil sword is randomly roaming around and it so happens that the pirate CAPTAIN holding the damn weaponry doesn't have a crew to stop these fighters from getting to him? Oh wait, it's a fighting game, one-on-one, so we didn't get to play or see that part, we just have to assume. And how did each of these fighters find Soul Blade? How did they travel? Walking everywhere? If we've got a sword capable of ruining the living Earth you'd think it wouldn't take its sweet time while heroes wandered to and fro, eh?

A "good" story is either simple, straightforward and revels in being so, or is carefully plotted, nuanced and interesting--while being easily and satisfactorily explained all the way back to its beginning. I don't give a damn which genre or medium we're talking about, if the most basic questions about character motivation and timeliness aren't answered clearly, it's a bad story. Period.

And I've played a ton of fighting games--it's my favorite genre--and the entire gameplay conceit comes down to that one-on-one (or two-on-two, etc.) battling. If you need a bunch of little bars to fill or extra armor pieces for your character to keep you coming back to the base game, then you're in the wrong genre. Go play Dynasty Warriors.

Reach damn well better be the ONLY thing affected by character appearances. I'm so sick and tired of the current creation system. I know there is a "no effect" mode, but that was in place for the weapons, not to fix a flawed design choice.
