Megaman Legends used to shit me up too. Demo one for ps1 used to scare me too, dark depressing music and games. Pandemonium, any early ps1 game really!

Wow, no mention at all of Majora's Mask? That game creeped me the hell out and gave my little brother nightmares! Or was it too intentional for this list?

@DevilSei "What's so scary about Majora's Mask?"

Zora Mask transformation. Using motion blur effects only made the transition that much more frightening.

Scariest game, imho? Justin Bieber: The Legend: The Game.

Oh, it doesn't exist yet. But it will. And when it does...may God have mercy on us all.

Fair enough. I'm tired today, leave me alone.

Nonetheless, most unintentionally scary game for me would be Dead Space 2 on Hardcore difficulty. That shit breaks people.

It was very, very creepy/eerie. Plus, there wasnt really any incentive for playing it slow and not dying. Playing on Hardcore made every dark corner, every panicked turn a threat. It's brutal.

The only actual horror game I've ever been kind of creeped out by was Amnesia: The Dark Descent. However, I remember being like 13 play Metal Gear Solid 2 late at night alone. That part where the colonel starts going crazy made me turn my PS2 off and I didn't play it for like a week after.

Minecraft has made me panic more than any other game I have ever played. Anytime I've fallen into lava with an inventory full of freshly mined minerals and diamonds or been blown up by a creeper or even shot into lava by a random skeleton. The idea of losing everything you have is horrifying.

I remember King's Field on the Playstation genuinely getting under my skin back in the 90s. Seeing as it was the spiritual precursor to stuff like Demon/Dark Souls, that's not surprising. So many ways to die.

The early days of Ultima Online could be pretty terrifying as well. With the lag of playing an MMO on a dial-up modem, sometimes players and monsters could jump all the way across the screen as the client and server caught up to eachother. I remember lag-teleporting Liches in one dungeon getting me to scream.

By far, the scariest game would have to be Wolfenstein 3D. This was back in 92/93, we didn't have a sound card, so all the sounds came through the PC's internal speaker. Instead of hearing "Achtung" from an enemy right next to me, there would be a high pitched electronic shriek. There was no volume control (that i knew how to access), so I really didn't have much choice. I'm sure I had a few bruises from my knee hitting the desk when it happened.

Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire on N64. There was a water level with weird creepy tentacled eyeball things swimming around gross brown water. Scared the hell out of me every time I missed a jump and fell in the water.

The first time I got attacked by a jumping head crab in Half Life scared the hell out of me and I about fell out of my chair. Enemies just didn't do that back in '97 or whenever it was. I have since made it a point in all Half Life sequels/expansions to exterminate every single one of them that I see.

Holy crap, I remember that terror! And doubly so when you were on your last torch, knowing that this was the end of the line and you were going to have to restart the game and just do it better the next time.

I never managed to beat that on my original NES. There was a key hidden under a carpet that I kept missing. Finally went back and finished it years and years later on my PC.

Whatever happened to Shadowgate? Loved it and thought for SURE we'd see a new one come up for Wii - seemed like a perfect fit. I also loved the N64 entry.

I'd love to see this ip come back.

I was scared pantless the first time I ran into the wraith.

The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening. That shopkeeper frightened the life out of me after I tried to steal something from his shop. Horrible buzzing noise + instant death = one freaked out little kid. I was only about 5 or 6 at the time, and I swear I didn't pick that game up again for like two years. Also, never stole again.

I have two: Clue (as in the board game) on the Genesis and Oregon Trail 2 for Windows. Some of the music and sound effects from both games were terrifying for a 10 year old me. I've had nightmares about both. I've since conquered my fear of OT, but I'll never play Clue again (Mostly because it's a board game on a console, but still...)

Also, Jess and Richard I COMPLETELY empathize with you guys on being afraid of water and the terrors therein. The shark from AC freaked me out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for NES, specifically the water level with the bombs you had to diffuse. Scared the living hell out of me, even when I came back with a Game Genie. And then I found out you had to do it a second time later on.

Another high adrenaline moment was with Descent: Freespace on the "Playing Judas" mission. I was playing that mission for the first time at 3am and when the Lucifer jumped in, I could barely keep my hand steady on the joystick to scan it.

Doom 1, Yeah it was a horror game but HOLY crap.

I was playing one day in my parents basement and as I am walking up to that freaky wall of faces my Dad hit the window with the water hose. I almost died right there.

Dark forces the Star Wars first person shooter has some creepy parts. Decent gave me vertigo.
