PSA: Talk to Calendar Man in Batman: Arkham City today
48
Eager Trophy and Achievement hunters likely already know the deal: today is Halloween and Calendar Man, a Batman villain obsessed with holidays and dates, is looking for a little company. If you talk to him in Batman: Arkham City on twelve different specific holidays (you can see the exact dates on a calendar next to his cell in the basement of the courthouse), you can earn the Story Teller Achievement/Trophy.
Of course, you could cheat your way through this by changing the date on your console, though we'd hardly condone that. The Batman is not known for taking shortcuts.

I like the idea of this side mission, but I hate the execution. Mostly because it feels ilke animal crossing, and lol, I have been playing enough of that as is.

Wait a minute...Batman eyes aren't blue.

They change depending on the series and who is drawing. Alex Ross draws them brown (see War On Crime big book and Kingdom Come), Richmond Lewis did them brown in Frank Miller's Year One, while in The Dark Knight Returns, Miller himself made them blue. Also blue in Hush, The Haunted Knight/The Long Halloween/Dark Victory. Consider the comics checked.

Well, Kingdom Come is an Elseworlds book, so he's not necessarily (for lack of a better word) "normal" Batman.
With Year One I think it's just hard in general to tell, but check the last panel of page 21, with Bruce over his parent's bodies. They're blue there.

Young Bruce has brown eyes in my TP of Year One. So in "elseworlds" characters have different eye colors. ;) I bet even in the (former) Detective Comics line it changes.

Really? Huh. In mine they're technically purple, but I think that's because it's night.
And yes, everyone knows that the most significant change in every Elseworlds title is the change in eye colour. You should have seen the time when Superman had orange eyes. Totally awesome.

The Long Halloween is my absolute favorite Batman story ever, and it seems like Rocksteady agree - there's stacks of references to it throughout Arkham City.

He's really chubby in the game. Better than having calendar pages for "armor," I guess. That is Kingpin though. ha.

When I first encountered Calendar Man in the game, I thought there would be holiday specific side missions, or something more than just an achievement for visiting him 12 times on 12 different holidays. Superlame. Still love the game though, don't get me wrong.

@HaVoK308 Christ, get over yourself. I said I love the game. It's fantastic. I am allowed to be let down. Passive-Agressive trolling.

I know I'm gonna sound like a madman yelling from the rooftops, but why is the first open world batman game still semi contrived to be inside the asylum?
We've got what 60+ years of him fighting mobsters, lunatics and meta humans around Gothham in general so what was the reason for the prison city thing?

@yomachaser my guess is that it gives the dev team a reason to not have tons of different cars driving around.. no law enforcement AI routines.... Plus it is immediateley recognized as a sequel to Asylum.

Well, there's story reasons, which I won't spoil, just in case.
There's also the fact that it's a good way to make sure it doesn't feel empty. there's always someone to beat up, a phone to answer, a Riddler trophy, etc. There's no long stretches of nothing.

Why don't they just make the console check a server for the date instead of checking the console? That's just stupid.

@Warlock234 Not everyone has their console connected to the internet.

So you're idea is to let people use the easiest technique to exploit the game to do something that is only meant to be done on 12 special occasions? This should be explosive to people who ARE connected to the internet, because let's face it, both ways are unfair.

@Warlock234 So what exactly do you propose? If the console isn't connected to the internet there is absolutely NOTHING they can do about it. It's an achievement/trophy. Who cares? It's not as if it gives you some competitive advantage if you unlock it the wrong way so again, who cares? I don't know about you, but I don't plan on remembering this achievement and turning it on in a year to get it. If there are people who want to do it the "right" way", good for you I guess, but don't cry because others will take the easy way out to earn it. A year is a long time to ask of a gamer especially when it is only tied to an arbitrary reward.
No, the only solution to the "problem" you're having with this is requiring the game to be always connected to the internet to play. And, that just doesn't seem like a good solution to me. If you'd prefer that then there is always D3 on PC.

I originally wasn't going to bother with this achievement as I'm not an achievement hunter and effectively done with the game... but since you've reacted to this issue with such amusingly overblown geek angst, I'm going to tweak the dates and unlock it right now.
Just for you!

Am I the only one this isn't working for? I listened to his whole statement about halloween and got nothing.
Posted: Nov 1st 2011 1:56AM Xero Theory said
@ThatPete You aren't suppose to get anything for talking to him on just today. It's an achievement/trophy that's tied to 12 separate holidays spanning the whole year. You have to talk to him on all the dates circled on his calender next to his cell. If you don't think you're going to remember to check in with him on those days the video linked in the last words of the post shows you how to do it in about 10 minutes.

This is a contractual agreement Joystiq, that you'll remind us to talk to Calendar Man on all 12 holidays.

Well at least with the PC version there's no concern about trading it in when it has value, so I can imagine launching it 11 times throughout the year for this.

Still waiting for PC version and the eventual massive price slash of said PC version around Christmas! :P
