"get a chance to download the new client"

Or are they going to shove it down our throats like they did the first time? Every time I accidentally opened Home I died a little inside.

@Father Of Noise

After the first 2 times, literally every other time I opened Home was by mistake. I guess that's why they put it so close to the store icon.

I'm pretty sure that home is successful in ad revenue and virtual-goods sales.

Financials you say? Oh, goody. That's what every gamer wants to know about. Let me guess. Not good, but not bad, right? Always fun to play the financial game.

Um... apples and oranges, man. Much like a country's fiscal budget, there are funds set aside and allotted to various functions and services.

As for PS HOME, I'm interested to see the changes and download times.

I really wish all the employees, time and money that went into Home had gone into something else... like a game, or cross-game chat, or even lowering costs for other aspects of Sony's operations.

Home was never that bad. I had a good amount of fun in there socializing w/buddies on my friendslist. For some of us it was our first time ever chatting w/eachother since most of the time in game is silent telepathic communication spawned from playing together all the time. Aside from that a lot of the games w/in Home are pretty cool and kept getting better. I also thought it was cool they streamed the Evo tournament...even though it was really laggy.

We all need to remember that Home is a free service and it's optional. There's no need to complain about something you don't have to participate in. You either enjoy it and frequent or you don't and ignore it, but I applaud Sony for giving something like that to it's community at absolutely no cost to me.

Gotta upvote this person. The second paragraph is all that needs to be said about this. I have almost zero interest in Home, so ... I don't go into it. But if you dig Home, this story is nothing but great news. The end.

@blessrok Exactly! Ive spent like 2 bucks in home for the Breast Cancer jersey cause it went to a good cause. other people enjoy it and spend a little more at their choosing. It makes a little money so it stays around and gets updated.

Well said. I kind of want Sony to give me back the few hours or so I spent trying to find something in Home that wasn't complete and utter drivel. But that's my problem, not theirs.

I think my biggest complaint is that the avatar and apartment content is essentially all for-sale. That's insane, to me. If I want to cover my dude in Resistance-related gear, making him a walking advert for the game, why charge or every piece of that gear?

Paying for something makes sense, but Home doesn't even reel you in with some free gear, plus cooler gear on the pay shelf. It gives you the choice of a few really sad clothes, and then tons of stores that won't even give you a free hat.

My biggest problem here is that they came out right off the bat with purchasable items in the "beta". So as cool as this redesign seems to be, they'll never be able to do a full redesign this generation without angering a lot of people who've spent money in Home. If Home had been 100% free thus far, with only ad-revenue, this redesign could completely overhaul the look and feel of Home instead of just adding drastic new features.

As it is, I've never really liked the look of Home for whatever reason. The avatars in particular just dig under my skin. So I'm disappointed they couldn't go back to the drawing board completely. If they continue Home next generation, I hope they start from scratch again.

@Oddgirl I think the issue is the word "beta". ALL MMOs are technically in a perpetual state of beta.

Selling items in beta means nothing because the word means nothing. Companies should just stop using it.

My only guess is they use it because if they didn't some users would be very vocal about changes being made to the game.

Home is a total waste of time. It's a free lame version of second life. and at 37gb it will take forever to download. it serves no real purpose.

@sunioj welcome kind sir, where does it say it will be 37gee bees to download? Also, how does it serve no real purpose? Commenting here is kind of a waste of time and serves no real purpose but people do it because we kinda like it. It's about engaging other members of the community that makes it interesting.

Looks much better than the original, only judging by looks though, as i don't have a PS3 yet.
P.S. Is it worth tracking down a backwards compatible PS3 or should I stick to the new one? I have a PS2, but the less consoles hooked up to my TV, the better.

Stick with the newer models. You'll end up buying one anyways when your original model goes bad, which unfortunately is becoming all too common.

Home has already changed a lot since it's inception. Yes - micro-transactions are still it's lifeblood, but especially lately they have been throwing the dedicated some cool stuff. I have yet to buy a single item, yet my wardrobe is brimming with free things. Someone mentioned having to pay for Resistance avatar gear. Well, my avatar sports a free full human army uniform simply because I played the related minigame Home offered during the promotion, and it took less than an hour.

This week it's Uncharted 3. Using your avatar to play the very Uncharted-esque minigame nets you more avatar stuff and a bonus perk for the multiplayer, all for free. There's fun to be had in Home if you go on once in awhile. It's not my first stop when my PS3 boots up but on occasion it's worth the visit, if you're curious about it.
