Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition announced for 2012
52
Next year, the Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition will wander into stores across North America and Europe on February 7 and 10, respectively. The Ultimate Edition includes all the previously released DLC packs: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, Courier's Stash and Gun Runners' Arsenal. The buy-in for the Mohave Wasteland bundle bonanza will be $49.99 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and $39.99 for PC.
Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition follows in the footsteps of the DLC-heavy Fallout 3. If you never got around to walking through the Capital Wasteland, the Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition, which easily includes 100 hours of content, is going for $30 (or less) these days.

It would if Microsoft and Sony weren't price-gouging digital goods.
All the FO:NV DLC added up is $46, almost the same price as this disc-based collection before considering the cost of the base game.
If anything is holding back digital distribution and DLC it's the absurd pricing models made even more obvious by "Games on Demand" prices.

@SuperAnthony64 Yeah, I've actually been waiting for this to be announced just so I know when I can pick it up. Still, the DLC on Fallout 3 was good when it wasn't crashing every five minutes, so I'm looking forward to spending weeks playing through this huge adventure rather than waiting for each piece of DLC to come out.

Good reason never to buy a game that has DLC when it comes out now since an "ultimate edition", "special edition", "game of the year edition", or "director's cut" will be out a year later.

@ZildjianKX Except bizarrely with Mass Effect 2 which came out in January 2010 and still has not had a Game of the Year/Ultimate Edition - despite having won many GOTY awards and having a lot of added content consisting of missions and miscellaneous weapon/armor permutations.

@dakinle Ya, I'm really surprised Mass Effect 2 never got a special edition (other than for PS3). I think it's actually the only game I've ever bought all the DLC for too. I wouldn't be surprised if they bundle all 3 games together with all the DLC after all the DLC is done for ME3 though.

How many of the DLC are actually worth playing though? Maybe one or two?

I was expecting this after Oblivion and Fallout 3 had re-releases with all the DLC included.

Well, glad I waited! I did borrow a friend's copy of Fallout 3 before picking up the GOTY edition for myself, but I haven't touched New Vegas. So if I ever finish with F3 and Borderlands I'll probably pick this up.
(By finish I mean tie up most loose ends in F3 and probably round out the achievements in Borderlands... except maybe for Mad Moxxi.)

Doh, I paid $20 for this a few months ago and it is still in my backlog. But if Steam has another $4 DLC sale, I'll still be ahead of the game if this is $40.

I could never get into fallout 3....it starts out really slow...can someone tell me if these games pick up later on.....

Glad that the PC version is Steamworks. That extra DLC will probably be bundled together (though, well, Borderland's DLC bundle is laughably priced: even with the main game), and Steam has crazy sales all over the calendar.

Still buying Skyrim day one, even if they do always seem to do this.

Yup, that's what I was waiting for. Now even mediocre games release GOTY editions a year to 18 months after launch. I waited on the FO3 GOTY edition, and scored big. Wish I would've waited on Borderlands. I didn't realize there was going to be three packs. Ended up spending too damn much on that game and DLC. Great value here.

Notice it says "Ultimate Edition", not "Game of the Year".
I don't believe this game would ever be GOTY worthy with the biblical glitches that destroy whole worlds.

But does it include game stability?

@IggyFandango
That would be an improvement, though stability was worse in FO3 GOTY.

I was really waiting for this! Then I played New Vegas. I no longer care.

I would be happy about this news if the price of the original New Vegas hadn't sunk like a rock. Now I can only get 5 bucks trade-in value on my current version which isn't enough to offset the cost of the GOTY edition.

hm. I suspect Steam might throw good discounts on Fallout NV DLCs when the ultimate version hits the shelves. Perhaps possibly good discount on Fallout 3 GOTY too.

I got to wait an extra 2 months until someone trades it in at gamestop so I can buy it used and return it the next day after I extractred all the DLC from the disc same formula I did with Fallout 3 DLC

$50 is too much. If you bought the first two DLC on sale two weeks ago, and the game at it's current price of $20, you only spent $56 on the same thing stuff.

Good deal. Could never get into the actual game though. Mind you, I have been known to buy things purely because it's great value...

My experience with Fallout NV was that it crashed more than Fallout 3, which I don't even know how that is possible. The problem is that I really like RPGs and these games are a lot of fun when they aren't crashing. I'd gladly buy the whole game over again, in spite of getting the collector's edition, if it meant the game wouldn't crash all the time.

Did I buy all the DLCs and the game day 1? Yes.
Am I happy I've played the DLCs and the game? Yes, absolutely.
Am I still mad that I could've waited and got this for 360 + PC for $90 instead of buying the game at $60 and all the DLC on 360 + PC? Of course. D:
(BTW, I have a Mac, you can run Windows stuff on there ;))

I waited for the Fallout 3 GOTY but after that I was hooked and have gotten all of New Vegas content at full price. No regrets.
Sure, some games I may want to buy as cheaply as possible because I'm just going to fly through the game and never look back but Fallout is not one of those games. I don't just play Fallout; I soak it in.
Fortunately, glitches were minor and infrequent enough for me so I don't have that aspect of the game(s) to complain about. I'm currently on play through #4 and will soon hit 350 hours on New Vegas. As an entertainment value per dollar, I see it as money well spent. Though my wife may disagree on that last point...
Now then; when's Fallout 4?

I'm waiting on Skyrim, as Fallout 4 will most likely be built on it's engine. If it can play without crashing all the time then it will be limiter released for Fallout 4.

I loved NV, what a great game. Too bad it is just totally broken - the last patch just made the game freeze even quicker. So I'll pass on this - and NV even lost it's space on my PS3 HDD.
This was an excellent game though - when it works.

@Nook if it isn't broken it makes Nintendo NES games look easy. Particulary that Dead Money thing.
