Totally. I don't want to be one to hate on consoles, they appeal to the masses and do it well, but I think some absolutely amazing lighting effects can be accomplished with PCs that would not be attainable on consoles at a reasonable framerate. Especially with Alan Wake being all about the lighting.

Since the next Alan Wake is going to be on the nextbox I'll put money saying Bioware's new game and MGS Rising are going to be on the next gen of consoles too. Either way I can't wait, Alan Wake is easily one of my favorite games this gen.

@BuddyleeR - I'm normally the same way except this year, I'll be sitting in the arena for UFC 140 which happens the same night & I have tickets...

Sadly, I'll probably end up sitting through it the next day on my DVR.

i did the same thing last year. i had Joystiq's live blog handy to make it a little more bearable though. Make sure i wasn't the only one seeing some of that stuff and feeling awkward just watching it.

They did have some great announcements though (seriously folks, freakin Skyrim!! just a week away!!!! and Batman Arkham City, or at least that was the first time they had that sick Joker teaser). I was just thinking about this the other day, wondering if the VGA's this year and in the future would start to be a regular forum for big game announcements. i guess we'll see next month!

Completely forgot there was a MGS: Rising.

FYI --
MGS RISING was officially announced at E3 2009. But at the rate they're going, I don't expect it to be released in time for the 2012 holiday season. Especially if they're still ironing out kinks in the FoxEngine.

@Nie - The VGAs do that every year, this is nothing new. There's always at least one GOTY nominee that isn't out yet.

Remember though that all but Most Anticipated are voted on by journalists, most of which have already played significant portions of these games before they're out.

I know from following journalists on Twitter & listening to various podcasts that they already have copies of the two games you're referring to.

@BoBsS By not being as good as those on the list, Skyrim which previews are raving about Gears 3 is not better than the rest. Skyward sword I have no idea about but again the previews are talking this game up.

MGS4 on the hardest difficultly really made the game so much better but i cant get into arsenal gear I think it might legit be impossible. As for the online, the better fix it. and if they botch it again, they have to put MGS3 online back up.

Arsenal Gear=Outer Haven, but yeah -- I agree. MGS4 was without a doubt, the easiest of the series, though the plot reiteration on the cutscenes was damnably as long as the loading for each act. But then a friend came up with appropriate reasoning for so much repetition:

Most of the "culprits" were elderly... and thus, we were "Grandpa Simpson'ed" into hearing nanomachine-convenient(but far-fetched)plot answers and conspiracies.

I don't know what super PS3 console you were using, but the act loading screens were much longer than 1-2 minutes, man. :\
I'll upload video proof if needed or link to it here later.

As for the simplicity of MGS4 -- camera controls were one thing; but the ability to pick up nearly anyone's weapon and use/sell it was another. Add in that you could wheel MG mk II around to spy and "zap-snipe", and the game basically held your hand from cutscene-to-cutscene. I'm a METAL GEAR fan for life, but I'm not going to turn a blind eye or act oblivious to some seriously glaring faults.

Sorry, call me a jerk but II can´t stop thinking "well this person didn´t played a lot of games then".

I´m almost 30. I work as a game designer. Played almost every genre and many, many titles and I can understand someone loving Alan Wake even if I don´t, but putting it into "the best game ever" can be only undestood if that person didn´t played many games, imho.

I think you missed the part when I said ´´my´´ , gaming preferences vary a lot and I think the part I loved most about AW is that I felt that I was playing a horror novel. The mood, graphics and story telling were superb and in the whole game I had a blast. I play games since the NES and in this gen I currently own and finished about 36 games and the one that stuck the most in my mind is Alan Wake. I think that even though the gameplay and combat mechanics are lacking if you keep thinking about a game after you finished it it must've done something right. PS the soundtrack was also amazing IMHO.

I tend to agree with you bro...I am one of the BIGGEST metal gear fans and I will NOT be getting rising...spare me the milking of a franchise please...I didn't give Alan wake a chance when I rented it the first time...I heard it was a sub par game...I only play it like 5 hours so it wasn't really a good enough amount of time to see if I liked it or not....but Bioware should make another new RPG IP but something totally different that what they have done in the past....like an open world RPG with swords enemies and spears some medievil stuff ya know...come Bioware show me this game please.

@Streeks1984 You may be right that some games don't really get fun until more than 5 hours into them. IMO, if the fun doesn't start by the end of the first hour, then the game designers didn't do good enough.

It will, actually probably be dragon age 3, is my guess. Which will have some feedback taken in mind for how lame DA2 was, but not enough.
A lot of those DA2 features will still be there and we'll be told about how much everyone liked them, or something like that. Seems to me, they learned all the wrong lessons with DA2.

That being said it seems that people generally agree that DA2 failed, but people tend to differ on what they though were the faults in the game, so it won't be surprising.

That or its the jade empire sequel many have been asking for, but it will be nothing like jade empire. ;) Either way I'm sure these games will interact in some inane way via cellphone or facebook ;)

Oh i almost forgot, it could just be same lame/crappy/half-assed Android/iOS game, milked from your favorite franchise.

The great thing about being a pessimist is you're either right or pleasantly surprised. I hope its the latter! :)

DA2 was an "alright" game. But, the vitriol puked on Bioware is bizzarre and over the top. They have a strong catalog of great games that critics like and customers have bought millions of copies of various franchises. A few missteps here and there and all this vocal minority can do is whine and complain about how poor and terrible the next Bioware game will be. Really? Listen to yourselves people. If you hate it it so much, stop playing. Find a new company to like, and then bash their skulls in the first time they make a misstep on a franchise you like...

DA2 was far from alright, anyone can give you a list of what was wrong with that game, but first and foremost on everyones list is "rushed piece of crap with loads of recycled assets everywhere." While most things are matters of opinion, everyone can agree on that.

While I am concerned about the direction Bioware seems to be taking, I still like them as a company, and want them to keep putting out good games, this is why I express my concern with such things.

I've never really felt the need to speak ill of any of their games until DA2, beyond just simple and minor critiques, and all the corresponding material they've put out to compliment DA2 hasn't done anything to assuage my concerns. I still think ME3 is going to be a great game, but after ME3 comes out I won't know what to expect from them, I can just look at their previous work over the last little period of time to see what I should expect from them in the future, which is DA2 and its other material, which has all been garbage

I don't see what's wrong with expressing concern over a company continuing to go in what I see as a bad direction, this being a section for comments, I'm not going to be quiet and not complain about something just because you disagree and think it is unfair.

I want Bioware to succeed at what it does best, but they seem to be more interested in putting out 'homogenized' games, which is making them just another developer as opposed to doing work that makes them stand out as they had in the past.
