Interesting. If I use Google Translate to define any of these into Common Sense, it ends up being Applejack.

@EliminatorZigma You forgot the silent "RAINBOW DASH" in your google common sense query.

Besides Alta Vista, Hotbot, dogpile and Lycos both agree with AskJeeves that Rainbow dash is the correct spelling of the best pony.

There, I said it. She's cool, but not as cool as everypony makes her out to be. Rarity is my favorite, mainly because she is underrated.

I don't hate the fandom, but I sure as shit can't understand why the show has become so popular with individuals who technically qualify as grown men. Just seems like another kid's show to me, but I guess the same could be said of Yo Gabba Gabba, and that clearly has a fanbase outside of its intended audience.

I've never watched Yo Gabba Gabba, but it has The Brothers Chaps of Homestar Runner fame on its crew, so I can kinda understand it getting some attention.

Likewise, Friendship is Magic had tons of former Cartoon Network employees (and one former South Park writer) working on it, so that probably factored in to ITS popularity...

Same reason why a lot of people can't understand why people who qualify as grown men like to spend their spare time playing video games. I'll be the fist to admit that there is a lot of crazy, over the top people in the MLP fanhood, but the show itself is pretty dang good(not the best show on TV, Adventure Time has that down pat).

You know what they say, different stokes to move the world.

@freaparn One reason is that the show is really, really wacky compared to the original. For us who actually knew the original back then, it's fun to see how they took completely brain dead generic characters and turned them to actual fun characters with fun personalities, into a show with a lot of underlying humor.

@jph89 How does liking MLP compare to liking video games?

Liking MLP as a "grown ass man" would better compare with liking the video games Barbie Horse Adventures, Imagine: Babyz, and Cover Girl. Likewise, enjoying video games as a whole as a "grown ass man" would better compare with liking animation / cartoons.

Not hating, have never seen the actual program. Your comparison just befuddled me.

Hmm...I think he's referring to people who are completely removed from game culture. To them, playing video games at all is seen as childish or immature. They've never played a game, or bothered to watch someone play for more than five minutes, so to them it is confusing and disturbing why so many grown men would sit in front of TVs for hours pushing buttons, when all it looks like to them is mindless "PEWPEWPEWPEW". Fortunately, these people are becoming less and less common.

I think a better comparison would be something like Harry Potter. People thought (and some still do) that they're nothing more than "kids books", because they never bothered to read one, or read past the first one and watch the characters grow into adults. It's something that looks childish on the outside, but once you experience it, there's a little something for everyone.

I watch the show on the Hub Network, and while i sort of get the appeal, i don't see anything mind-blowing

Granted i've only seen a few episodes, and few TV shows have captured my interest straight from the beginning

I don't think a video game blog should be considered a refuge from the show, considering a large portion of the male fans of MLP are avid gamers.

He lead director and character designer is Lauren Faust, who's worked on Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, the Powerpuff Girls, and the Iron Giant, to name a few projects. She's the one who made sure that this reboot wasn't just another hotly show.

Yo Gabba Gabba has a diverse group of talented people working on it. Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo regularly appears on the show, there are some excellent chiptune artists who make the soundtrack as well.
