News of the cinematic adaptation of Asteroids resurfaced earlier this week when Slashfilm reported that Universal has hired Evan Spiliotopoulos (responsible for that upcoming Snow White thing) to pen the script for the worst idea anyone has ever had, and that the plot is still similar to reports from 2009: Two brothers must find each other, and themselves, in outer space. Or something.
You know, we looked into it, and it turns out Hollywood already made a much better Asteroids movie in 1998 staring Bruce Willis and Liv Tyler's mouth. It had an Aerosmith soundtrack and everything.

Once again the 3DS does well. Can't wait for more media spin on how the system is worthless and Nintendo is doomed.

It's not worthless. It's worth about $179. But that does not change the fact that the qualitative software support for it is slow/non-existent.

Nintendo isn't doomed, but they screwed up the launch of the 3DS royally and now they're paying big time in the sense that they lose money on every 3DS sold.
It's good for them in the long run, but short term things aren't looking so hot. I haven't seen many articles about Nintendo being doomed, but I've seen plenty that rightfully criticize Nintendo for handling the 3DS launch the way they did.

Nintendo selling one console at a loss = royal failure
Sony and Microsoft selling every console at a loss = business as usual
Me = Confused at crazy double standard

It had a major release this week, which of course boosts sales. Typically it's selling about 5ok a week.

The sales spike for the 3DS is because of the release of Super Mario Land 3D... can anyone imagine what will happen when Monster Hunter is released?

Japan will explode into a mess of stereoscopic 3D. The only way to properly see the country of Japan anymore will require the use of 3D glasses.
And you'll often see monsters running about, too. Don't worry about that beast over there. His name is Toshihiro, and he works at the nearby 7-11. It's cool, man.

Screw Monster Hunter. Imagine if a new 3D Dragon Quest game comes out. The country takes a "holiday" for that release.

Just wait for Pokemon 3D......
Productivity in an entire country, from ages 10-80, will suddenly stop.

Up, down, up, down, and the DS Lite is smug enough to break the pattern.
In regards to the Asteroids movie, I think we should, perhaps, and this is directed towards everyone, broaden our imaginations a bit...?
There isn't much to go on, sure, besides the recognizable graphics, which I don't see them implementing into a movie, but there are potentially cool scenarios for some action scenes by throwing the asteroids into the mix.
Come on guys, think the Obi Wan/Fett showdown in Episode II, the space battle. How 'bout that?

Now I'm thinking out loud, here, but if they translated the graphical style to the film adaptation, just a bit more detailed, and 3D of course. Could be visually innovative for the movie industry, no?

Lots of people don't realize that just because a movie is taking something's name, doesn't mean that THAT'S what it's going to be. Battleship probably wont feel like the game. This movie surely wont be like the game. Tron wasn't really like the game (yea, yea sequel bla bla bla). It's easier to take a name that people know, and start your "popularity" off with a bang, instead of trying to earn it through honest to goodness trailers and information.
Of course, many times these examples turn out to be pure trash, maybe taking the name just so that those people would see it (and if the name was different would just ignore the movie completely). But there's always hope.

Umm...Tron, the movie, was created first and the videogame was based on it, not the other way around.

Of course it sells, there haven't been any new hardware from Sony or Nintendo in a while, it's ahead of everything else, price was dropper dramatically and Mario platformer was just released. This is 3DS's best selling time, also in West where is it's first holiday season and being only new console. I'd be very, very worried if it wouldn't be selling.
