I rented this yesterday and have fallen in love with it. Perfect, hell no; awesome, hell yes. I gotta put it on my Holiday Mooch List.

@touchmage

Then go make a game that has exactly everything you want in it, since to most people, this IS how a Zombie Survival game should be.

I would actually like a sandbox-ish zombie survival game. I'm hoping that undead labs class3/4 ends up being what I'm looking for. Unfortunately not a whole lot has been released about that game.

But as a theme-park zombie game, Yes. It's everything I wanted.

A sandbox-ish zombie survival game? Isn't that Dead Rising 1 & 2?

I hope it's a sexy bloodbath with hot-ass, bikini-clad zombies.

Question: Is it still necrophilia if the dead are re-animated?

Answer: It really shouldn't matter. Dead or not. The blood, scarring, and decapitation should be the deciding factor.

So go for it! :D

So is this game good?

I keep hearing mixed reactions towards it.

Give it a rent first. It's definitely not for everyone. It can often be broken, unpolished, frustrating, and damn cheap. But it's tons of fun. Try before you buy.

It's fantastic...if you're into it. That sounds rediculous I know, but it's the truth. I had it day one, loved it, and never had any bugs. I love zombie games and open world games and this seemed like a very smart, thought out execution of the genres intersecting.
The story is well enough, but the place where I think it really thrives is the atmosphere. If you like games with heavy atmosphere and exploration, think bioshock and fallout 3, this game will be really really fun for you.

@King Johngie the Fourth

I can get it for $20 for PC and I can't rent PC games, well as of now.

Interesting. Is the COOP any good?

That is the main thing that is pulling me in, at interest.

Co-Op's mainly the big reason TO play Dead Island. Solo it's boring, and the zombies overwhelm you too easily.

You know, for all the griping about the bugs in this game, I'd just like to say that:

1) I played the game from beginning to end, twice.
2) I played a ton of multiplayer with friends.
3) I got 1000/1000 achievements.
4) I racked up about 80 hours of gameplay.

I found a few minor bugs: zombie arms clipping through walls, a zombie fell through a bridge (once or twice), cinematics skipping (twice), and I got stuck behind a fence (once). That's it. I never got a corrupt save, I never found any game-breaking glitches, and I had a ton of fun playing it. I can only speak for the Xbox version, but if you're on the fence because of the repeated claims of "it's an unplayable glitch-fest!!!!11!", try it for yourself.

@MMMDI

It had a fair amount of bugs, which have since been patched out, plus the patch added some nice improvements. But this game is a blast! And breaking limbs or slicing them off is so uniquely satisfying. If you play by yourself, the game is a lot freakier and more tense, but I always find co-op to be much more fun for any game. I was on the fence about it until I tried it out and found the melee combat to be completely addicting.

I had 2 saves corrupted BUT this game is great and a lot of fun. The problems have probably been patched by now but I still back up to a flash drive every few days just in case. I just barely missed out on the limited edition -- thanks, GameStop, you jerks! -- but I'll gladly buy the DLC for $10 especially if that makes Dead Island 2 more probable.
