@FlashJS - I'm not sure how I can legitimately roll my eyes over the internet without resorting to a simple >_> face, but just know that there were some lulz while said eyes were rolling.

At least it's just silly cosmetic stuff for the multiplayer. If they want to milk character skins that don't give you an advantage or anything then that's fine by me, let the people who want to buy something like that go ahead and buy it.

Now if it were like a full chapter of the single player or something, then I'd be pissed.

Just today IGN posted an article giving the first Xbox credits for the new things it introduced.

One of them, of course was "DLC"... no offense but shame on Microsoft for introducing DLCs.

DLCs are supposed to be to put later in the game anything that they did not think about before releasing it or to fix any bugs with a patch DLC.

DLCs should not be a way to make more money from the consumers.

What companies are doing with DLCs is as bad as what some consumers are doing by illegally downloading games.

Now why would anyone need to pre-order DLC? That doesn't make any sense at all...

For the record Festival of Blood wasn't DLC, it was a standalone game, but point taken, since you still have to download it lol. The way I see it though, maybe it's a case of someone browsing the store a couple of weeks before and seeing it there, but forgetting to go back when it comes out and buy it? In that sense it has value.

maybe its for people like me who hapharzadly waste whatever spare change they have, and then when it comes time to buy the dlc they're broke.

As far as Festival of Blood goes, I believe those who pre-ordered got it for $5 less.

@denklau

I pre-ordered Festival of Blood for $10, and I'm pretty sure it costs $15 now, so that's the incentive for that. As for this DLC, it doesn't seem like you're getting a discount for pre-ordering it so there's no consumer incentive. However the pre-order lets Ubisoft gauge the initial interest in their DLC before it's even released, as well as earn some cash upfront instead of next month when it's released.

@Hyperion45

inFamous is still $9.99. I picked it up a few days after release (with PS+ though for $7.99). Those who pre-ordered got a dynamic theme.

Holy cow. Look at all the negativity.

It's not like this is even main-game or storyline driven content. It's a skin for multiplayer. Let people buy it if they chose!

It's only getting worse. I've already posted info. about this, but

I know at least one major company I've worked with (can't say who unfortanutally, but you'll likely hear about it eventually) is considering 3D mode as a pre-order bonus for Gamestop if all goes as planned, for an upcoming release. Don't worry though, the ability to play in stereoscopic 3D will be available for $15 DLC (that's the price they are pushing for anyways) 2 months after release via PSN!

The only things that look like may hold this back are that they can't do this on the 360, and there's been some concern that it won't sell since 90% of gamers don't have 3D TV's. But if they are talking about it now, imagine what's in store for us a few years down the road.....

Stop being reasonable. Don't you know that this is essential content and we are all being forced to buy it?

I turned on my 360 this morning and the DLC preorder was already payed for. Ubisoft's brainwashing subliminal messages that force you to buy their DLC in your sleep seem to be working just fine.

Wish I was bluffing boy, but I'm not. Like I said I'm hoping it won't fly but the only thing stopping it is how few people use 3D. This will likely come to pass when it's more feasable.

It's optional, however there are trophies (and I assume achievements) associated with them. Which is annoying for an OCD like completionist like me :p

Didn't see anything about trophies/achievements in the press release or article. Got a source?

This business model could only survive in the video game industry because the customer base is largely comprised of idiots with no self control or concept of value. Just a bunch of kids and guys in their twenties with more money than sense. That's who buys the DLC.

No self-respecting adult would pay for this garbage. The movie and book market wouldn't put up with this. Games are already massively overpriced (length of time it takes to play is a totally spurious benchmark put forth by developers to publicly justify their extortion.) Entertainment per dollar is bogus. Game prices went up to current levels when Nintendo appeared int he 80s and said 'we aren't selling normal games, we're selling premium pieces of digital art!' and the world bought it. And you all continue to buy it. And then you can't wait to give them more money for nothing when they announce their revoltingly bad value DLC.

Overpriced from a consumer standpoint, but you have to consider that every hour of gameplay is several hours of development.
But,that still doesn't justify $4 for a skin pack that could have easily been unlockable in game

I agreed with everything until you blamed Nintendo, where the hell is that coming from? The 3DS is the first time they’ve upped game prices from the norm, ever if I recall correctly, they don’t support DLC and most of the head honchos there despise the practice. I do agree their VC prices are pretty bogus for most of their games, but I’ve seen worse (Chrono Trigger on Wii vs PS, for example) and I still fail to see what that has to do with day 1 DLC. Nintendo’s by far putting up the biggest fight against this DLC bull, and you are blaming them?
