Kind of neat. It's too bad the actual game play features aren't more effective, but being able to change options on the fly with only my voice is a step in the right direction. Imagine changing look inversion or sensitivity as well.

Great for when a friend comes over and needs to change settings quick because they play different than you. Basically it's great for that, but throwing grenades and reloading is just going to slow you down a TON.

@Mrblonde57 If moving things ineffectually and imprecisely with my hands is a taste of the future, then I would like a great big serving of the past, please.

Agreed. Motion controls are fun (with an actual controller with buttons), but the motion-capture that the Kinect uses is full of lag.

"Use Kinect to reduce reaction time and impress old people."

Kinect is definitely still in gimmick territory for me. High hopes for Ghost Recon, but not too high.

Haven't picked up the refresh of Halo yet, but...

I wish the Kinect gesture control was a little more customizable on the 360. I keep wanting to select an item on screen by "tapping" my index finger when I'm hovering over it. It'd also be nice to be able to "grab" the screen anywhere and move left or right/up or down when on the dashboard. It's a minor inconvenience to have to hold my hand over and item for a couple seconds as opposed to just making a quick gesture and moving on, it'd make the entire Kinect experience a lot more fluid - in my opinion at least.

Yeah, certain games use those gestures so I'm not sure why MS decided to use that annoyingly slow control method for most things.

Tom Cruise was not slowly moving and hovering his hand in Minority Report, dammit.

Kinect is nowhere near that advanced, and it probably never will be. The mo-cap technology that Kinect uses is full of lag and Microsoft probably won't fix it until the next generation of consoles.

I'd imagine the voice commands for grenade and reload could be really benficial to gamers who don't have a set of hands to play with or someone with a physical disability that doesn't allow them the full use of their fingers. This is a practical application of the feature for those individuals.

I do have a Kinect, got one for 99 bucks and feel like this is the better approach when adding value to core games.

PS: Game just got here in mail, time for nostalgia.

funny how he says this game used to look "ugly" when the truth is that it was the best looking game around on consoles when it first came out, and still looks better in classic mode than a lot of shit on the Wii.

cool video though, Richard. was kind of curious about everything the Kinect would be able to do in-game. the analyze mode is actually pretty cool.

Actually I still think the bump mapping used on background textures looks really neat. I used to just stand around zooming in on it and admiring the lighting.

The original Halo is extremely dated visually. Halo 2 looks much better.

There are many games that show off how powerful the original Xbox was, Halo 1 is not one of them. Play Doom 3, Chronicles of Riddick, Breakdown, Dead or Alive 3, Ninja Gaiden (& NG Black), etc.

The original Xbox was much more powerful than the PS2 and GameCube, yet only a few developers took advantage of it.

Nice walkthrough, liked the virtual dog cameo :)

Still mildly annoyed about the library being kinect only, that seems really silly.

Most of the stuff is pretty useless but the options stuff where you'd otherwise have to scroll through multiple menus is actually very convenient. I hope every game starts implementing that stuff in the future.

It would be especially handy in Gears 3 MP since I always forget to change my loadout in between rounds and don't realize it until I spawn with the wrong gun in the next round. I'm not about to scroll through 4 pages of menus mid-round while everyone else gets a jump on the power weapons. Just being able to say "equip hammerburst" and have it set up so you spawn with the hammerburst next round would be uber helpful.

Question: Have you ever played MP with a splitscreen partner? If so, is that where you can't see the prompt for changing weapons between deaths without having to go to the menu? Because that's the problem I'm having.

good idea. you know what else would be helpful? if you could say "mute all" in Call of Duty and never have to listen to drunk frat tards and pre-pubescents wailing away on the mic they shouldn't even be wearing.

No, I always just forget in between rounds. Then we respawn next round and I'm like "dammit, I have the wrong weapon! Oh well I'll change it after my next death" and then I just forget again. I just recycle that endlessly until I finally nut up and go through the pause screen mid round and usually get blown up in the process.

I stopped playing Gears splitscreen after Gears 1. The characters just take up too much of your FoV when you do splitscreen in that game so I just buy two copies for local MP.

The ability to adjust game settings on the fly is nice, but "Pause" "Resume" is pointless when you're holding a controller...and "Reload" "Grenade" are (as he put it) neat but not practical.

I couldn't bring myself to care enough to watch beyond that. So I missed anything actually groundbreaking you'll have to let me know.

And note to Joystiq. Bungle didn't make Halo Anniversary Edition. 343 Industries did. They're Microsoft's new internal studio that's in charge of the Halo franchise and headed by Frank O'Connor (ex Bungie employee).

Can you say gimmick!! (you don't know about it cause it was an afterthought!)

Also can you say let's mess with our friend GRENADE GRENADE and let them keep running out of them or mess with the brightness or contrast!

When they do stuff like that it is really silly!

Let me control it at the options menu so NO one else can mess with it!!

Oh and what a really gimmicky way to throw in Kinnect support that really doesn't do that much!! And oh how quickly it responds too :)
