Maybe it's a big prank they're playing... there IS no Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy; they're just making you think there is to see if people actually are willing to pay that much for a FF game.

No to both of you. People really will pay that much.

@Gaddes Or this is how the pricing structure has worked for ages in japan and Joystiq is ignorant of their system.

Just a thought.

So... Charging an extra $10 in America again probably, putting this at $50. A collection of flash minigames for a system that's yet to really take root and they surcharge the title $10? See ya at the bargain bin.

It doesn't really matter what they price it at. I've been a fan since FF1 and there's no way in hell I'm buying this at ANY price, and I'm sure I'm far from alone.

Agreed. However, you can't entirely blame them for ruining their IP and one of the greatest IPs to ever have existed.

Squeenix: "Final Fantasy is keeping us afloat, let's combine that success with say... Guitar Hero and make even more money."

Ex-Squeenix Fans: "This guy are sick."

I believe that's roughly how it went.

I'd pay $5 for it if it came on a physical cartridge.

I thought this was an iPhone game. I assumed when it was declared 'overpriced', it was something like $10. I wasn't prepared for the massive ripoff that actually awaited me.

Square Enix makes me so mad these days.

They work on so many different projects at once that they need a large amount of funds to pay for it all. This leads to more projects, smaller ones, that can be sold with this inane "tax" to make just a little more money towards the other projects. Maybe, they should try not working on so many projects at once in the first place.

They should also try making games that we'd actually like to play. My brother has lost all his faith with SE. As we all remember, SE used to be the ****.

We both kind of want this game, but there's no way I can see either of us paying $50 for this. There's just no way.

Squeenix, workin' the player nostalgia in alllllll the wrong ways :\

I usually like to pretend that the much-talked about Iphone-effect on gaming doesn't exist, but man, does it really put things into perspective here!

I don't get the hate for this game. It looks pretty fun to me. Like Elite Beat Agents with Final Fantasy music. I like those things. Obviously if they release it with the Squenix tax I won't buy it until it's cheaper ($40 is already a lot for most 3DS games), but I'll probably pick it up eventually.

I was actually sort of interested in this game. Final Fantasy has some of the best music in all of gaming, and the thought of playing a music game with RPG elements would have been kinda cool. I thought that the concept was pretty interesting, and if done right, could have been downright fun.

The problem I have is what S-E is asking for it. It's almost as bad as what Capcom's asking for the new 3DS RE game, but at least that has the graphics and game play to sort of justify the price. This game doesn't. It shouldn't be anything above $29.99, if that. Had the game looked like either Crisis Core or Dissidia, then maybe I cold have accepted their asking price, but as it stands, it's just a bit too pricey.

@FinalFantasyXIIIsucks Yeah Squenix will have a hard time selling this here for anything more than 30.

I hate all these US websites posting ignorant articles about Japanese game prices. 6090 yen is not an unusually high price for a portable RPG in Japan. That's the exact same price that Ao no Kiseki (the most recent sequel to Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky) for the PSP released at, just a couple months ago.

The fact of the matter is that Japan charges a lot more for video games than the US does to the extent that it's not unusual for DS, PSP, and 3DS games in Japan to cost more than 360 and PS3 games in the US. It's no wonder they have a major used game problem.

@TJF588 It's a rhythm game, not a RPG. It has RPG elements such as "a level up" but outside that it's elite beat agents. It's overpriced bro, stop white knighting it

@(Unverified) Final Fantasy XIII was not a shitty game. It did some things wrong but it did a lot of things right, too. The battle system was fantastic. The biggest problem with the game was the linearity, which isn't a problem any more in XIII-2, which is more open. If you had been paying attention and didn't spend all of your time looking for reasons to bitch, you'd know that.

You say they keep making the same mistakes over and over again, but you don't apparently know what the even means.

I have been a FF fan since the original on NES and I hated FFXIII, but people saying that S-E can't make a decent FF game anymore really should try Type-0 first and see if they change their tune.

Type-0 is amazing. It's up there with the best FF games of all time.

It isn't unusual for that to be the price for japanese games. It's how it works over there. All i see is an excuse for Joystiq to poke fun at a game they're sceptical of.

...You know, i don't why i bother writing stuff like this. Joystiq nor the people who comment take anything on board.

It's almost as if you guys would rather take things at face-value and not do any research.

"A random writer said it on Joystiq? Well clearly i've gained all the knowledge i need, no point looking into the matter myself!"

And because of Joystiq's backwards comment system, barely everyone will read this and learn something.

I'd offer a shovel up but with that price I'm sure they could afford one of solid gold. If that game pops out in this country playing the square nerd tax game they've pulled on Nintendo since FF2 dropped at $60 20 years ago and since right into the DS era they can suck it. I want the game, but I can also wait as long as necessary to see it priced right.

Nergy: Seriously, the game is priced over a 1000 yen more expensive than Super Mario 3D Land, the value and back converted to the dollar in comparison percentage wise of yen vs the dollar for Mario puts this game in the $50 range, and that's the classic square nerd tax in full effect. They got every right to be pissed if this happens here too.
