Don't worry buddy. The Spike VGA's are the most useless excuse for an awards show. They're basically the laughing stock of the game industry. It's sad Joystiq would even waste their time (and ours) by even posting any info on the Spike VGA's.

It has been proven in the past that money talks at this "awards" show - frequently, the advertisers end up winning - which just proves that there is zero thought into the nominees or the winners... it's all about money.

The scum running the Spike network have a special place in hell waiting for them.

Lol, good thing.

Also, I noticed that there isn't even 1 Xbox 360 exclusive nominated for GOTY.

Naughty Dog did a pretty good job representing the PS3.

Nominations are still preferred-choice -- if not by four to five people, it is still a generalization of a few.

To me, I think Gears 3 should be nominated b/c of its immersive campaign, tons of multiplayer offerings, and top notch third person cover shooting. But guess what? I don't work for Spike, and I'm sure tons would disagree with many of their choices as well.

Glad Dark Souls got a nomination for best RPG at least. It's goty for me, but I didn't expect it to be in the running. Would have like to see Dark Souls be nominated for best ost as well, but can't have them all.

@Mechazawa Prime So far, I'm inclined to agree...even though I'm stuck at the moment in DS and have no idea where to go. That said, I suspect either Arkham City or Uncharted 3 to be worthy games for the award as well.

Where are you stuck at? Soul Level? Last boss you beat? I'd be more than happy to help, assuming of course you want help. The system of trial and error and finding your own way is part of the fun for many people.

I'd wager Valve wins dev again, even though they only put out Portal 2, they made a lot of heads turn with DOTA2 being shown, and continue to support the shit out of TF2 and brought some of the L4D2 support back.

As for song, I REALLY hope Bastion wins with Setting Sail and gets best score. Korb did an amazing job with that soundtrack.

Tough call. I'm leaning toward Portal 2 as GOTY at this point, but that can change quite a bit as I keep playing through this stuff, and I probably won't even get to Skyward Sword this year.

I'd have to go with Assassins Creed Revolations (not listed for GotY), Uncharted 3 or Skyrim. I don't think there is a bad choice between the 3 but if I had to pick one game it'd be Skyrim. I'm typically not a fan of the medieval fantasy genre (dragons & stuff) but even with all it's technical issues the game is just so epic in scope and the customization is so deep that it deserves the win.

Uncharted 3 is an amazing game. Probably the best 3D, most cinematic and best technical achievement in gaming history. It has awesome multiplayer, aaa Hollywood story & sequences and great co-op. It may very well be the best Playstation game ever and the best 3PS ever ... But even considering all of that and the comparatively short dev cycle I still tip my cap to Skyrim.

It's an awkward, embarrassing joke every year, but damned if they don't have some kickass debut trailers. I'll be watching this year solely to see the new Transformers full length trailer.

Most of the awards are voted on by games journalists, and I think this is reflected in the games category where the nominations are pretty solid.

The embarassing jokes are the voice actor awards. These are NOT voted on by games journalists, and are simply given out to the most recognizable star that Spike TV can pay to appear on the show.

So for example, this year you should see Mark Hamill get the award for a good-but-not-great Joker performance. A far better choice is Stephen Merchant, whose improbable rise to power and reign as omnipotent idiot still makes me giggle more than 6 months after I finished the game.

Basically this. VGA's are a popularity contest anyway with fans deciding the winners, and we all know popular does not necessarily mean best. One day I hope a Academy Award-like video game awards are held with votes coming from a board of sorts made up of people from mostly the development community, and some reputable members of the media. It wouldn't be perfect, it never will be, but it'd make it far more reputable.

Everything is voted on by fans though, not sure how much weight they actually hold if there are others who do vote as well, but it's still silly. The nominations are also somewhat of a joke just because many of the nominees just came out or aren't even out. December is the 2nd worst month to hold these awards.

Interesting. In 2010 Red Dead won, and in 2009 Uncharted 2 won. In both cases, I think they made the right call. I can't imagine either of those games winning if fan voting was heavily weighted.

But...both of those were extremely popular, especially around that time. If you're wondering why a CoD game didn't win it's because frat boys don't care enough to vote for a video game award show.

Depends on who you talk to, I suppose. Like a lot of multiplayer games, there were definitely online issues at launch, but I found a lot of them were ironed out over the weeks and months after release.

It's also important to note that with Mortal Kombat, I'm referring very much to local multiplayer. I know everyone assumes "online" with this category, but I have had a ton of amazing nights playing this game with buddies. I even set up a few tournaments and awarded prizes for the winner. I haven't done something like in, well, ever.
