As prognosticated by the ESRB, Darkstalkers is indeed headed to PlayStation Network. Capcom has confirmed that its monster-infused fighter should arrive on PSN later this month, with the release currently slated for November 29.
Readers may remember that the road to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was paved with downloadable releases of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. We've said before that this PSN release probably doesn't mark the beginning of a Darkstalkers revival, but there's always hope.

Now that you mention it, her posture is one locked in ecstasy. Crop her out and put her on a bed with a top down view and suddenly it's no longer PG-13.

If this is the original PS1 version no thanks. That was one of the WORST ports of one of the best and most underrated fighting games from Capcom. It would be better if they released a full PS3 version of Chaos Tower or the Japanese only version PS2 Darkstalkers collection. I guess we'll have to wait and see on the 29th.

@ShadowLordAriel Nevermind I just read that it is indeed the watered down PS1 port.........BOOOOOO! Let's hope that they release the PS2 collection version for download on US PSN.

Seriously? WOw, that's BS. I've been playing the Vampire Savior collection via emulator, and it's fricken sick. I'd pay 50$ on PSN for it anyday.

It's Capcom's MO: port with the least amount of effort as possible.
The PSOne releases were panned in even in their heyday. They'd slap "EX" on everything to pass it off for the chop-jobs they really were.
Expect "Darkstalkers 3" from the PSOne to hit before we ever see the more enjoyable and accurate Saturn/Arcade Darkstalker games.
Hell, the Cyberbots import is the PSOne version.

There are probably some gamers here who hadn't been born when this was released and otherwise do not know. But this is true... The PS1 port of Darkstalkers was inferior to the CPS2-based arcade original. In addition to load times (which will be shorter here but likely still present) they sacrificed many frames of animation to fit in the PS1's less than 2 megs of RAM (which introduced anomalies). The first sequel, the confusingly titled Night Warriors in the US, was a Saturn exclusive and supported a RAM cart to reduce load times and display more animation. Same with Darkstalkers 3 on Saturn. PS1 did get that game and it was okay, just missing most of its animation
This is inacceptable when the CPS2 version is likely easier to emulate, the DC version has online play, and the PSP version you mentioned was the best out of all of them and included all characters, music, backgrounds, and playing styles. DO NOT BUY THIS unless you suffer from aspergers or something

While I disliked the PSone port of DARKSTALKERS, I love the franchise. So, I have to buy this and support the product... with the hope that Yoshinori Ono will provide a new game for this series. I figured it would've just used the same engine as STREET FIGHTER IV, since it's character designs and gameplay look more like DS characters than SF ones.

I'm not sure how I feel about the "support this game so Capcom knows we want more of them!" concept.
I get the point. I just wonder how they'll take the message.
Will they think "hey, people want new Darkstalkers games!" or "hey, we better keep just releasing PSX classics instead of superior versions!". I'm inclined to believe the latter.

Will Capcorn do the right thing?
The only way to make this true to the legacy is if they make it an HD 2D fest. Like the awesome King of Fighters 13.
Do a 3D cel shaded POS and Capcorn would officialy join the Axis of Evil Game Companies

If I remember correctly, the PS port of Darkstalkers was done by Psygnosis and the difficultly was increased. This is quite some time ago, so I may be wrong. Anyway, I agree, that Capcom may be releasing this to test the waters for a new game. And Yoshinori Ono said at the New York Comic Con that at conventions he asks the audience to whip out a ten dollar bill so he can take a photograph of them holding up their money to show to his bosses. While I love 2D sprites (they're basically the reason I became a fan of the fighting genre), I do not think Capcom would go back at this point. Plus, their recent fighting games have pretty much proven that it can be done with polygons.I think Darkstalkers 4 would be a great title for the launch window for the next generation systems, as long as Capcom does not go overboard on the DLC. I wouldn't mind their nickel and diming their fanbase as much if it actually were nickels and dimes. Their DLC is priced too high.
