A quick reminder for all the PS3 players out there: PlayStation Network will be down for maintenance for most of today. Account management, account registration and the PlayStation Store will all be unavailable during the maintenance. PS Blog does note that "some users may be able to play online during the maintenance," presumably those who were signed into the network before the maintenance began.
PSN should be back online by 10pm Pacific (1am Eastern) tonight.

This is very likely to due to the 5 to 2 console limit for PSN games.

@(Unverified) or because PSN is five years old. and there have been rumors of both xmb and PS store redesigns...

It'd be more helpful just to know when PSN is even online considering how often it's down. You could make a website dedicated to this alone and make quite a profit

@ChiTownRuler23 sounds like you are having battery issues. I mean I have 6 DS3's....the longest last about 20 hours or so while playing shooters online. The shortest is around 7 hours. Still not bad considering I only use one at time until it dies.

lol why did i get downvoted? oh well but yah I haven't gotten to play on my station because of work but yah the batteries are kapoot i had them for awhile but im not trolling sony its not their fault, lithium ion batteries hold less of a charge over time. I have 2 dead ipods and a laptop battery that only holds a charge for 9 minutes to show for it. Its cool tho now i have an excuse to buy some red white and blue controllers.

@ChiTownRuler23
the white ones are sweet but DS3 controllers in general seem to wear down really easily.

What exactly are they doing, again?
Are they just locking down the bathroom for several hours because some chubby kid vomited in the urinal from eating too much Taco Bell at the mall?

Darn. Now I have to use my AdBox 360. Hopefully Sony learns from this, and makes updating less of an inconvenience with the PS4.

What boggles my mind is the fact that they are doing this in the middle of day, and telling their customers that they can't be on the network or potentially spend money during their prime time.
whenever live went down for maintenance, it was during the middle of the night, so as to inconvenience as few people as possible.

Middle of the day for whom? It's always the middle of the day somewhere. It might just be that you're not in the group that they are trying in to inconvenience.

Hey guys! Playstation Network here, just wanted to remind you that today is the last day for people who own multiple PS3s to download their purchased games to their consoles!
Also, we went ahead and -conveniently took down the store for "maintenance" an entire day before the new rules go into effect preventing anyone from making additional purchases-. Enjoy! :)

It works by verification, not downloads. If I have a game on 3 PS3s, one of them won't play the game because it won't have verification.

@(Unverified) I'm aware of what it does. Doesn't change the fact that it's an added step which doesn't apply to games purchased from the store before tomorrow. Solution? Announce the change takes place today - DURING the "maintenance". Not afterwards when it's too late.
Completely coincidental all-day-long maintenance that conveniently ends after midnight EST.

Deactivate the old ones then. I don't see the problem. You can still play the games you downloaded on the unactivated console(s) because it only verifies activation when you download.
Hint: Activate your systems when you want to download something, then deactivate them. If your system ever dies, you won't have to contact Sony to get the activation reset.

@BlazeKing I know you don't see the problem, this is the internet where smart people have to explain everything in really small words with visual aids to get people like you to understand:
"Company X says that if you buy their product before Thursday, you'll get a free candy bar!
X Incorporated then makes it impossible to buy anything an entire day before the deadline."
Let me know if I spoke too quickly for you.

@TerryMasters They already announced they were making this change a couple weeks ago. And in that announcement they said that anything you have purchased prior to Nov 18, you will continue to be able to activate on 5 PS3s. Only purchases made on or after Nov 18 will be restricted to 2 PS3s.

How's that irony working out for you? Even the 2 people above my reply had to " explain everything in really small words with visual aids to get people like *you* to understand".

Well that's the thing, you can play games anyway. It's just that you can't go into the store and there may be a small chance you can still play multiplayer. Kids these days. They cry too much.

They're probably doing security stuff to ensure that the PSN won't get hacked again, even though it will very likely get hacked again asap.
