I'd wager anything it's for mobile game development. Either way, I liked The Last Remnant, and would love to see another like it if they could polish it up all nice and shiny like.

Well, Rainbow Six Patriots is supposed to be using Unreal Engine 2, so it could be worse. I wonder what game will be the first to use UE4? Maybe a new Unreal Tournament?

@Timjoy

Is sounds like you're hoping for a FF7 remake with UE3.

@Timjoy I remember when Squaresoft could do no wrong, but that's been decades ago--probably around the Chono Trigger days.

Personally, i've always felt Square lost its way when it got heavy into the CG craze. They fell in love with their own product (i.e. ridiculous cutscenes linked by occasional gameplay) and got drunk off too much of their own kool-aid.

Then Sakaguchi left and the storytelling hasn't gotten anywhere close to what they used to be. Uematsu left and the music just isn't the same--it's like they either try to be modern and blend in or try to recapture their old style and just sound like a parody of themselves.

Honestly, I'm surprised Amano still wants to have anything to do with SE anymore.

Maybe someday, SE will find their mojo again. I certainly hope so. I miss games like FFIX, Chrono Trigger, and Xenogears.

@StrangeDNA this man speaks the truth. No Sakaguchi, no Uematsu have caused the decline of Square. Plus the fact that they are dumb and don't know what their fans actually want.

Last Remnant for PC was actually pretty awesome.
If this means more SE software on PC, I'm all for it.

@Syesta Completely agree. I'm only just playing Last Remnant now on Steam (though interrupted for a bit by Skyrim).

Anyway, the more I play Last Remnant, the more it just keeps getting better and better, which is such a pleasant surprise after those other recent HD Squeenix games (Final Fantasy, I'm talkin' about you!)

...for the record....."The Last Remnant" was fantastic to me.....regardless of all the technical shortcomings. I digged it, story, cutscenes, art design, etc.........that's why i don't really bet the farm on review scores.

Sometimes you gotta make up your own mind.

@NOVAtr1be So true... FF13 got undeserved perfect scores while reviewers trashed Nier, The Last Remnant, and Resonance of Fate.

Yes, all four of these HD JRPGs have some flaws, but I enjoyed Nier, The Last Remnant, and Resonance of Fate WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than the jumbled hot mess that was FF13.

@Naru now in 3D What about Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4? I thought ID was pretty awesome, personally, still haven't bothered with SO4 though.

@Oddgirl

The Last Remnant was a pretty good game once you were able to get around the counter intuitive leveling system. Game: "Oh hi there, to get better drops and such you need to chain multiple enemies"; Mid-game Boss: "Hahaha, because you chained all those enemies your way too high a level with shit stats who has no chance of beating me let along the late game enemies";

I love Infinite Undiscoverey's combat. It's like they took the combat of Tales of and Star Ocean and put it into the open action adventure style world. It's probably the game out of all of them that I want a sequel too the most just because of the combat.
The various crafting systems that you could do with characters was pretty cool as well. The storyline was a bit so so and the main character became pretty annoying during the middle part of the game.

Star Ocean 4 was alright. The combat was pretty fun and the crafting system and such was neat. Some of the characters were annoying as all hell though, especially 'Kay and the main character about halfway through the game. The story was also a bit here and there and got dragged on a bit too long.

I hate Resonance of Fates combat system. No matter how much I played it, the double standards of what you can do and what enemies can do was just too much.

"which really makes that title ironic in retrospect"

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Last Remnant was like a good supplement for my Ivalice obsession.

It just had the FEELING.
I get the giggles whenever Squeenix releases a Ivalice Alliance game.
