We can hardly think of a more gripping, dramatic story than people transformed into gigantic lizards, apes and wolves, who go about destroying skyscrapers, so we're happy to report that New Line has optioned Rampage for the silver screen. Just imagine it: a gigantic ape, palming a frightened blonde, descends a massive skyscraper -- oh, right, that already happened. Imagine a lizard then! Or a wolf!
The Hollywood Reporter says John Rickard, who helped produce a plethora of New Line Cinema films, is currently shopping around for a writer to come up with a script. Frankly, there isn't a better ending we can come up with for this post than a person will be paid to write a Rampage movie.

Are you from The Hollywood Reporter, or are you a representative of New Line Cinema? Because if not, were you really expecting them to give the source of the article as "Some Guy From the Internet?"

I'm glad Hollywood has their finger on the pulse of what franchises are relevant in today's gaming landscape.

I wouldn't be surprised if Uwe Boll's name was attached to this at some point. Providing this ever happens. (please if it does make it be fun)

Hollywood has no original ideas anymore. Remakes, reboots, making movies out of games, cartoons, books. They're thinking of making a Waldo movie!

@Doctalen Be careful what you ask for. Hollywood still has tons of original ideas, but they're all Katherine Heigl rom-cams.

While I do not see the profile motivation in this particular movie, there is the fact that movies cost so much that they can't risk taking new risks.
Personally, I'd say quit paying talentless and ego-maniacal actors fifty million to star in horrible romantic comedies, but where would we get the large amount of actors and actresses to replace all these egotistical morons? Not like there's any other people with dreams of actorhood or whatever.
But yeah, I wonder if we'd actually get unique ideas again if we didn't pay talentless buffoons millions of dollars to make them think they're gods. I admit I haven't done much research, but when actors demand multi-million dollars to use their likeliness in a movie... well, kinda inflates movie production costs to the point no studio would dare make a unique movie that isn't guaranteed money :/.

If this does well can we get some movies for Defender and Yar's Revenge also? Oh! How about the "World" games for Atari, you know? Earth World, Fire World etc.. etc..
Actually, those could probably be made into a halfway decent film.

Really, this game would seem to translate better to a movie than a lot of games. I mean, monster destroys city isn't really a new concept for movies. Now it's just three monsters instead of one.

Oddly enough, I remember seeing this at the movie theater.
In the little arcade it had.
And now, ten years later, it has all come full circle.
I'm sure there are many people out there dying for a Rampage movie, though. That right there is a popular property.

What else is sad? The last time I actually went to a movie theater to see a good movie.
