Did you ever dream of Apple, Microsoft, and 4chan would all be fighting for the same thing?

I think you misread this. Apple, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc. are SUPPORTING the censorship law. 4chan is AGAINST it.

4chan is against this, while MS and Apple are for it, so they aren't fighting for the same thing at all...

You would even joke about supporting something this moronic because one site you don't like is against it? Do you realize how insane that is?

This is not something to be making jokes about. If you are joking about it, one would hope that is simply because you fail to understand exactly how bad it will get if it does pass. ...And it doesn't have a damn thing to do with "piracy".

@mietha - Yea, because one insignificant joke from someone in the comments of gaming blog suddenly means that person has no understanding of the bill & the ramifications that it could potentially have...

Ok... Sure. I'll let you believe that I know nothing about this. Seems a million times easier than trying to get you to apply common sense to the situation.

Your parents dying in a fiery car crash is not something to make jokes about.

4chan's stance on trademarked material on the internet isn't hallowed ground. If this is so important to you that you flip out over a joke, you're probably 12 or just have no actual responsibility in life.

@Jameseh -- If anything, more people are going to pirate from this. And the companies won't get "free advertisement" for their games and products because the average person won't be able to show them off and give fair reviews on them.

These companies are all shooting themselves in the foot without even knowing it, since the language of the bill is so vague.

@Jameseh no but it will seriously cripple it and with microsoft, apple, nintendo, sony, adobe and so on reporting the sites maybe they will even form a special office to handle it then it will be really really hard to find a site with illegal content.

I don't quite understand. This bill is BAD for the internet and it's users, limiting content and freedom of speech, etc. So are these companies are supporting something that would ultimately be bad for them? In EA's case, it could severely limit the amount of video game gameplay uploaded to YouTube, effectively shrinking free advertisement and then getting less sales. This will effect all these companies in BAD ways... or I am misunderstanding this and they are actually against it?

EA would view this as a good thing. I fully believe they'd rather go back to the dark ages of game media, where you were flying completely blind when going into a store to buy a game. So when they release something like Dante's Inferno, you don't know it's a pile of shit beforehand, and it's sales would likely go over.

This would let them squash more negative press than positive. Hell, they could even let the positive off the hook of infringing and only go after the negative.

Game companies don't want you looking at their games before buying them, they only want the press to see their games. Videos of gameplay are frequently removed from youtube. They DEFINITELY don't consider gameplay that they haven't precisely manipulated to spin it in a positive light as "free advertisement"

@Warlock234 Nah, it'd be a victory for EA. They're on a quest to claim the title of "Most Evil Gaming Company Ever," even though they already have it and there's no competition for it...

It's funny all these companies make movies, music, games and more about all kinds of illegal actions such as murder, drugs, murder, abuse, car jacking, murder, racism, murder, sex etc...

but copyright protection is where they take a stand.
Isn't Apple's current wave of success based off mp3s?
Didnt these companies get sued for breaking copyright laws?
(rumble packs,motion controls,touch screens...)

so if this passes and sales are down, then who do they blame?
oh that's right,the used market :)

Not exactly surprising. I mean come on, the internet is one of the largest and quickest sources of information. Not just news, but also reviews for games and consoles.

Heck, I may be taking this deep into tin-foil land, but just imagine what they'd do with this power? A site or ten gives a mediocre score to a first-party title that is a major part of the launch lineup of a new console? BAN EM! Ensure only high praise is thrown about so more people will buy it. Sony gets hacked, which threatens to drop user trust and hurt their sales figures? CENSORED! No one knows, and everyone goes on as is with the excuse of some maintenance to the servers.
