A group of dedicated Halo fans have put some serious time, sweat, tears (we assume) and talent (we can see) into a coming webseries, Halo Helljumper, based on the short story "Dirt" by Tobias S. Buckell. The film series will tell the tale of one ODST battling the Covenant before the fall of Reach. The first episode is set to premiere in January. Check out the trailer above and get some more information about the cast and props right here.

Looks really good, though I cant say I know what it'll be about - makes me want a movie though, by a director who loves and played the halo games.

That's fanmade?! I swear, one day, fans will take over Hollywood, and the world will be a MUCH better place because of it...

Amen. It seems that fan made game movies are the best type of game movies. By gamers, for gamers. It reminds me of Escape From City 17. While a movie based on the game, it still had the heart and soul of the game.

I'm sure people said that about Operating Systems as well. And look at the market share Linux has.

You mean the most widely used and deployed operating system in the world? Just because it's not the largest desktop OS doesn't mean that it doesn't dominates basically everything else from your TV and phone to the server that you're using to post your comment.

With the exception being that the audience doesn't have to change what it does. Sit, watch, and believe.

I know it's not technically an OS, but I learned long ago that it's easier to simply go with it when talking to non-computer science savvy people then parsing the difference between a kernel and an OS.
The difference doesn't really matter on a practical level to anyone who doesn't already know it.

That's some gritty cinematography they got there, a bit different than Halo's usual visual style.
Looks pretty professional, I'm so pleased when I see fanmade films constructed by so much dedication and passion. And it's especially impressive considering their resources, which would be rather limited.

i don't get it. people always criticize games this gen for having a 4 color palette of browns and dark browns, but when a series like Halo keeps on pushing their blues, purples, pinks, greens, and all other sorts of colors, it's criticized for not being "gritty" enough. meh...can't please everyone. Reach was actually the grittiest game in the series, imo, with ODST being a close second. the very story of behind Reach is pretty depressing because, y'know, we don't actually win in the end....

I dunno why you were downvoted seriously. when i come to the site i mainly go to PS3 articles once in a blue moon I'll click on a article that's in the wii or 360 Tab. I agree tho i don't wanna see games in my PS3 category that arn't on PS3 at all that's like seeing Uncharted in the Xbox Section and they don't have that title for that system.

They really should shell out for a sound designer--that trailer is flat as fucc without and sound effects.

The music is a bit drab too. Over-dramatic yet flat feeling with no emotion.
The visuals were top-notch though! The editing for the trailer was pretty awesome as well!

The better the visuals of these fan made projects, the more the acting stands out. What these guys are doing is great from a technical standpoint, and impressive for an independent production. But, I really wish people could find better actors for stuff like this. This doesn't feel like a Hollywood film, because those movies (the good ones) have better actors.
I've been involved in a number of independent projects. A few have had great scripts and great equipment and a crew that knows how to use it, but finding good actors is the most difficult part.

Totally agree. Everyone is praising the visuals in this trailer, and yeah they're good but the acting and imo the dialogue is terrible and makes this come off really amateur.
Plus I would have liked to have seen say, the first 5 minutes of the film or 5 minutes midway rather than a trailer. Trailers are way easier to put together than a solid 5 minutes.
Not trying to be harsh, I admire the time and effort put into it though. And the money spent because organising and funding something like this isn't easy.

well, in Halo's defense, when it first came out it WAS really original for an FPS game. it had a solid, compelling single-player game with unmatched system link multiplayer. without the rampant success of the Halo series, there likely wouldn't be the glutton of console FPS' that we see today. just my $.02 and notice that i'm talking about consoles, not PC. i realize there were awesome single-player FPS campaigns before Halo (Half-Life, i'm looking at you) but nothing really compared on consoles in 2001. what we see now are just a bunch of big, fat imitators.
