Jak and Daxter Collection coming in February 2012

High-definition goatee news now, with Naughty Dog sharing further details on the disc-bound Jak and Daxter Collection, set to hit PlayStation 3 in February 2012. Most remastered trilogies can match the features boasted by this one, such as 720p resolution, Trophies and stereoscopic 3D support, but none can claim to have this kind of titular escalation. You get Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (subtitle), Jak II (Roman numerals) and Jak 3 (plain ol' numbered sequel).

Remastering duties on the Jak and Daxter Collection fall to Mass Media, a company that survived a stint and closure under THQ, where it ported the Full Spectrum Warrior games to PlayStation 2. According to Naughty Dog co-president Evan Well, Mass Media is "working closely with our team at Naughty Dog.

A brief reminder of the games being assembled here can be found in the trailer above. We're also reminded to institute a law preventing anyone from writing "duo" if it's preceded -- as always -- by "dynamic."

one can only hope. what i really want to see, and i'm pretty sure you would agree with me on this, is an Oddworld collection. Abe's Oddysee, Exoddus, Stranger's Wrath and even Munch's Oddysee all on one bluray would be fantastic. also, how about a last-gen GTA collection? Final Fantasy could do with the HD treatment, as well.

Jack & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is worth the price alone.

No, those are pretty much the only ones that interest me too (now that Uncharted and God of War are probably done for this generation.)

you do know that the new Sly won't be developed by Sucker Punch, right? just discovered that the other day, and was immediately disappointed. hopefully "Sanzaru" can come through and deliver a solid Sly experience.

As mentioned before, a pair of ottsel sized pants should come with the pre-order. And maybe a LBP costume pack. :]

Uncharted isn't done yet. Naughty Dog still has UnKarted to do.

With all these PS2 HD remakes, why do we even have PS2 Classics on PSN? Waste of resources to have 2 separate services for PS2 game distribution.

I have ICO / Shadow of the Colossus Collection and it is definitely worth it. The framerate is much better than the choppy PS2 version, and the graphics look much sharper and more detailed.

How are the God of War HD collections (GoW 1 & 2, GoW Origins)?

the God of War collection is great, but i haven't tried the Origins collection yet. been meaning to add it to my amazon queue :D still, the best HD-ified last gen game so far is probably the Halo: CE anniversary. there's only one game on the disc, but it's fully worth it imo. still the best Halo campaign ever.

Thats a bit different since they replaced all the textures from the original game, but its still a good remake.

There werent many performace issues that I really remember about any of the Jak games. Well maybe Jak II in the industrial zone but they were mega smooth compared to what Shadow of the Colossus was like on PS2, a nightmare of jaggy edges and motion sickness inducing FPS lag.

At the very least I hope they offer it as a PS2 classic on the store. I'm guttered too about that.

I love the HD collections. Team Ico and Sly Cooper were both great. Have played GoW, but I will pre-order this collection for sure.

Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, and Santa Monica need to make the most awesomest game together!

I just hope they really re-amp the graphics tho. I heard Metal Gear Solid Collection wasn't really done all that great. And I played GoW and they only re did the gameplay & some cut scenes. I want a fully re-done HD experience.
But this couldn't have come at a better time because I've been dying to play these again. I was in need of money and had to sell most of my PS2 games about 2 years ago. So this is good news :)

I rather get the PS2 version(s) at gamestop and play it on BC PS3 or PS2 system.

Anyway, for good measure, they should throw in Jak racing and the Daxter PSP.

Definite buy.. though 1080p resolution would be nice, all other remixes are 1080p not sure why the downsize.

I love these games. And to make sure I don't spontaneously begin murdering people, please, everybody, it's JAK and DAXTER. Not Jack, not Dexter, and definitely not Jaque and Doctor

SO MANY GAMES IN FEBRUARY WTF.

It looks like there's a bit of model improvement, especially noticeable higher poly counts on the heads. Hopefully they re-encode the original audio assets, as awful audio quality was the worst disappointment of nearly all the HD Collection releases thus far. Ico tried to cheat with interesting EQ, but everything still sounded weak and hollow, like the audio assets were 11khz or something. It was the same with Prince of Persia The Sands of Time :(

If anyone can do this properly, providing the original uncompressed art and audio assets for optimal encoding and placement for current-gen hardware, it's Naughty Dog. If they also disappoint, I'll just stick with upscaling emulators as I cannot abide lazy cash-ins.

There already was a Jak and Daxter 4. Anyone remember "The Lost Frontier"?

I'd rather think of Daxter as J&D 4. The Lost Frontier was pretty bland.

@tendoboy1984 I don't think any J&D fan would actually count that towards the franchise. That was a game thrown out, out of desperation. I guess to see if it still had a fan base o.O Idk but it was bad. All I'm trying to say lol

I wish they could also do a Legacy of Kain HD Collection or a new game at least those were awesome games in my opinion.

I never actually got Jak X, and nobody I knew seemed to care about it, was it actually that good?

Another dream come true... two before it with the recent ICO and MGS HD Collections and one to follow Zone of the Enders HD coming up in 2012.

After these two release in 2012, all I need is KH Final Mix and Ratchet & Clank HD Collections and I'll be set.
