The dreamcast version was the best one. Still, if they are giving it a makeover, it could be very good.

@bIakepro

You're thinking of Rayman 2. And yes, the Dreamcast version was by far the best, followed by the PS1 version. Rayman 3 was on PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and PC/Mac, but not Dreamcast. By 2003, when it came out, the system was essentially dead.

Oh you are RIGHT! Thanks for setting me straight. It was my first Rayman game and I fell in love with it. The silky smooth frame rate. The awesome sound track. The charming characters... and the solid platforming..

Sadly I've been disappointed by most rayman games since then. I did try the demo to origins and it seems quite good though.

Is it sad to say I want a updated port of the Dreamcast Rayman 2?

@bigwhiteyeti Titled Rayman: Revolution (Rayman 2: Revolution in North America), this PS2 version of Rayman 2 was released a year after The Great Escape. It features some enhancements including new levels, some level revisions, a few new music tracks, three new bosses, Lum redistribution and an enhanced cameo from the first Rayman game's mosquito mini-boss, Bzzit (the son of the villainous Moskito). The Hall of Doors is replaced by ...

rayman 2 was the first game i ever bought and been disappointed with. I guess I was spoilt with spyro when my best friend came over for the weekend for an all weekend rayman fest but were left with nothing to do after we finished the game in a few hours.

Why would they update this one instead of Rayman 2? Does not compute.

But you'd think if they were going for a must-have Rayman release on XBLA/PSN, they'd go for 2 or perhaps an HD version of the first game. Maybe they'll work their way backwards? It'd be nice.

@That One Guy
The point I was making was more about giving the game the update treatment: Rayman 2 deserves it more than 3 for the simple fact of quality.

Just because Rayman 2 has been released more often, doesn't disqualify it from the getting the spit and polish treatment. And as for impossible to find, you can buy the PC version from GOG any time you want.

Loved this game on Gamecube back in the day. Different that Rayman 2 but just as enjoyable to me.

Finally some Rayman 3 love! It's always Rayman 2 this, and Rayman 2 that... Rayman 2 has been done to death! Both are fantastic games, but Rayman 3 deserves a spotlight too.

Looks really great, and I'm glad to hear they're taking audio quality seriously. They really screwed up the Prince of Persia HD Collection by retaining those awful-sounding 11khz samples and not using realtime 24-bit echo/reverb.

Any studio with decent asset management can get an intern to dig up the original, uncompressed, full-palette textures and re-sample audio from the music/speech session DATs. Re-encoding assets and adjusting swizzling assumptions from there, in addition to increasing the native rendering resolution, should be relatively straightforward from there. When coming from Xbox1 games, the PS3 has an advantage since it also has an NVidia GPU and the same fixed-function shaders can be used as well to save a little time (though we would all prefer modern shaders) ;)

Rayman 3 has John Leguizamo in it.

So there's that.

Rayman 3 isn't quite as awesome as Rayman 2, but that game's been rereleased so much over the years (It's even on the iPhone!) that I'm happy this is getting another chance. Anything to bring Rayman back in the public eye is good with me, especially since poor Origins seems to be flopping despite being a fantastic title.

Origins simply got pushed to retail at the wrong time of year. Shame, really. The demo was awesome and I hope to be able to acquire the game soon.

@Behonkiss Yeah, it really is a shame that origins isn't selling well. It's my GOTY personally.

I was so hyped for Rayman 3 and it was actually the first PS2 game I ever got. I still have it and still think it's great. I'm sure the price won't warrant me buying it again just for those improvements, but I do like the game. It'd be cool to see an HD collection of the first three Rayman games but I kno that is highly unlikely.
