Rage demo available now on Xbox Live, coming to PSN December 6

Just in case you didn't get a chance to wander around the Earth, post asteroid-smash, in id's Rage earlier this year, you can give the game a taster without investing any of your hard-earned cash (well, beyond an XBL Gold membership). The game's demo is now available on Xbox Live, and is expected out on PSN on December 6.
If you like what you see, don't forget that the title can be found in most Black Friday sales this weekend -- most retailers have it offered up for about $30 or so. And if you agree a little more with our review (that there are probably better games of this ilk out there right now), well hey, at least there are better games of this ilk out there right now, right?

Well if they want to beat MW2s world record for really late demo they have to try harder than that.

i'd say late demo's lose sales more than anything. in the case of Rage and Resistance 3 (which now both have demo's), i rented them to see if they were worth anything, and proceeded to enjoy and finish both. (they were short-ish!) ..and now there's no reason to buy them :/
as much as a demo can turn people off, it can make a lot of sales.

I guess they're releasing the demo because sales weren't too hot and some reviews were a bit harsh. If the game had done very well, guaranteed no demo. Game marketers never put the consumer first, and most of the time are trying to pull a con job in order to get people to buy their stuff. If they don't need to show you what a game is like beforehand because of buzz, then they won't. Can't let the public test before they buy, they might not end up buying at all!

@Dick Socrates Its not that simple, sometimes a demo isnt possible, either because developers dont have the time, it doesnt make sense with the game that theyre designing, sometimes its completely unecessary. Its a case by case basis.

Yeah, like Brink. Worst disappointment in the past year thus far. I felt like I was lied to.

So what about that crazy idTech5 engine? Is it any good? Were the megatextures or whatever Carmack was calling them worth it? On consoles, I mean.

Not so much megatextures. At least when you get up close. But at 60fps, didn't notice any screen tearing and some fantastic lighting (wasn't dynamic though) game actually looked pretty damn gorgeous. At least the town part. Sewer section was pretty average.

The demo looks great, but it has that problem when if you turn back fast, you see the textures loading, or if you run and stop, you see some textures loading, it does not slow down the game, but sometimes it looks weird

Definitely immersion-breaking, but otherwise it's a pretty game.

Speaking of XBL Marketplace, aren't there gonna be any Arcade releases today? I just checked it over my lunch break and there was nothing new.

My instant assumption is that this demo was a response to Rage's sales last month, but Im glad I could finally see how the game looked for myself. Still not buying it, this game still seems too conventional for its own good.

So it's up for 30 on Black Friday, but I cant try it out on PSN until DEC 6.....whose idea was that -_-

Its a good game, by no stretch of the imagination would I say its fantastic but its good enough to make you want to come back. The gun play is solid, the cars are decent, the characters are well made if slightly stereotypical and the online elements work well. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes this genre even if rpg's aren't your thing. Personally I dislike full blown rpg games so this is perfect for me as it strikes a good balance between that and fps's. The only real issue with it is texture pop in (I'm on ps3) but besides that it works flawlessly. It's fairly obvious that the demo is being released because of bad sales figures but that's hardly surprising considering the other games that came out at the same time as this. Anyway if you see it cheap then I'd say go get it, only cost me 99cent because I traded resistance 3.

@BrianZeluz I totally agree. The game looks the part. The second one (if they make one) is really a thrilling prospect. All i want is bigger and better. With more interactivity with the characters and levels. It'll be a must buy. Think fallout but with more action

Kind of annoyed right now, at microsofts BS trial code tactics and my stupidity.
Its $40 this friday, I noticed I had a 2-day free code from halo: reach.. but I failed to read the super small print thats its for NEW accounts.. so I used it on my current account hoping to start downloading the demo, but Im still "FREE" cause the 2-day trial code is greyed out.
What a waste.. *sigh* :(
