PSA: Free Gears of War 3 DLC map pack available now

The Gears of War 3 maps bundled with the "Horde Command Pack" are now available for free. The "Booster Map Pack" includes new arenas Azura, Blood Drive and Rustlong, along with tweaked favorites ~~Bulletmarch~~ ~~Mulletbarch~~ Bulletmarsh and Clocktower.

The pack strictly offers the maps from the Horde Command Pack and does not include the updated Horde fortifications, playable characters, or the weapon skins. "RAAM's Shadow," a campaign-based addition, is the next piece of Gears 3 DLC on deck for December 13, at 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).

Even if you didn't buy it last month, you can still play it online now.

@GamingColt Making my payment for the first DLC basically worthless since a) I don't often play horde b) the maps never came up in matchmaking c) who actually gives a shit about weapon skins?!

Still, I do appreciate the fact that they are distributing the maps for free now - that's how it by and large should be, especielly since three of them were already on the disk, and it might actually mean they come up in matchmaking. Yea, people need to be urged to download this shit. Just don't let people pay for the stuff beforehand who may basically get nothing out of it.

Same reason you can´t open most AVI files on a MAC, most of them have exclusive codecs packs for Windows.

I like how blown away people are by free DLC on microsoft machines. I guess I play too many Valve games, and games by devs who continue to support their work without charging you again.

cosmetics =/= maps, weapons, updates.
I don't hate DLC cosmetics. I hate pay-for map packs, which should be free.
Hell, what other game gives you a (Albeit rather slim) chance to get the pay-for cosmetics for free?
And if you buy weapons you're doing it wrong.

That exotic city looks like it came straight out of an Uncharted game. This isn't a trolling comment; I'm merely remarking on how stunning it looks.

that's exactly what i was thinking. i've never seen anything from Gears that's piqued my interest, but this map is beautiful! it makes me want to roam around and climb everything, and talk to villagers >_

So how many of these articles are we going to need before Joystiq figures out that the map was named Bullet Marsh?

That's 0 for 2 so far. I'm not convinced anyone at joystiq has ever even played on the map before.

@Roofus I love that mode! It's good to relax the shotguns and have a little fun with explosive turkeys (chicken?).

Im sorry....but this almost seems like a 1 on 1 rip from one of the survival maps in uncharted 2.... bleh, shameless rip.

You obviously havent played the map or the last chapter of Gears 3 which this map is from. If anything it is inspired from Bulletstorm (also by EPIC)

@Darki Dreamside You obviously havent played Uncharted 2....which came out before GoW 3 and Bulletstorm. BLEH indeed! Shameless rip title stays!

Why can't they just make the Horde Command stuff free? Keeping it paid means that the number of players that can play it are limited, and then it can't be put in regular matchmaking. Keep the skins paid if necessary.
