"There have been some misunderstandings around Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield 3." That's according to a rather diplomatic missive posted on EA's support website. If it was your understanding, shall we say, that PlayStation 3 copies of Battlefield 3 would include a free download of DICE's downloadable skirmish, you may have been disappointed to find that freebie ... slightly amiss.
After deflecting the deal with a lame DLC consolation -- and hearing about a class-action lawsuit -- EA has decided to dole out vouchers for the MIA Battlefield 1943. The process requires you to log in to EA's redemption portal, 1943redemption.battlefield.com, with your Origin ID and request a download code for your region. Codes will be available for European customers as of November 26th, and for Americans on December 10th.
With all that done, you'd better find some time to play it!

What a dumb screwup. What did you think was going to happen EA? Can't wait to read next month's Joystiq article: 'EA shuts down all Battlefield 1943 servers...'

@Hoops Haha, the thought probably crossed their minds. You can tell they being cheap by staggering the rollout of codes. That way they probably won't have to add so much server capacity to handle the load of a rush of new players worldwide.
Props to the lawyers who did this, keeping EA to their word is great to see.

Uh, that's not true. It says very clearly in EA's press release, "Visit 1943redemption.battlefield.com on or after the dates outlined above for your region and log in with your Origin ID and password."
This isn't a one day only affair. I hate EA as much as the next guy, but you don't need to make up things about them.

That and not staying with your party ever. Its like it tries to split you up on purpose.
Its f**ked.
Really gets to me because they have a great game, But leaving out the commrose from the console versions and giving everyone crap team communication stuff really breaks this game for me.
I wanna be able to say thanks sometimes, One button does not let me do that.

$15 game not being included really made a lot of people mad. I assumed any diehard BF people already had it. I know I do. I mean its damn near 3 years old now. Why play that when BF3 is better and has the larger community on PS3?

Because it's not about the game, it's about the principle.
If you go around letting companies think they can walk all over you, and lie to you to increase sales, then they'll think they can do more.
Case and point? Ubisoft. Speaking of which, still waiting on Joystiq to mention the fact that Ubisoft said - And I'm paraphrasing here, "Since gamers asked for the removal of DRM in our games, we knew they were just going to steal them, and since Xbox is better than PC, we're not giving Ghost Recon Future Soldier to PC; they get an Online Free To Play game, since 95% of them would just steal it anyways".

Thats not the point. Its that this offer made people preorder and buy the PS3 version, At no point in the run up to release did anyone say that it wasnt going to happen.
Were giving them money, Its stupid to let them f*ck you over and not want to complain about it.

yea I suppose...but like other people have said. They can easily kill the servers for that game in the next few months. Its coming up on 3 years old now. So sure, they could have very well put the codes in the cases, and still killed the servers by March...I wonder how many people would have made a big deal then?

I don't get why it was so difficult to live up to this deal. It's not like giving away free 1943 codes would be a huge loss to EA at this point. How much are they even making on that game anymore?
Unless they COMPLETELY forgot this was promised then they should have done their best to avoid the bad PR.

It's too bad they plan on pulling the rug under your feet when they slowly shut down the servers.

Really people? All this complaining over not getting a 3 year old game? Which was mentioned by Sony, not EA I believe . Those complaining about this was the reason they preorded, really?
Just the fact that a bunch of whiners were threatening a lawsuit of this is just a joke. Get a grip people!

Oh I have a clue, it's you that needs to stop whining.
It was like when the original call of duty was included with modern warfare 2 prestige pack. Nice, not thrilling, would I have messed myself if they didn't include it? No. It was a old, very old game!
Get a grip on reality.

Actually you do need a clue. Sony isn't able to just throw a free game into something, they'd have to secure the rights for it. Which means they contacted EA who allowed Sony to announce the bundle for Battlefield 1943 with the PS3 copies of Battlefield 3.
It's not exactly rocket science. Heck, it's not even 3rd grade math.

And here, people, we see the poster boy for "The idiots who are allowing companies the rights to ruin gaming by not standing up for gamers' rights."
Now, let's put him in the stockades, and throw tomatoes at him.

Once again Sony promising something it can't deliver. Hey maybe they should have discussed it with EA before they spouted off at the mouth again.
Just rabid PS3 fanboy crying again.
Don't get your way, cry, resort to insults.
Now if they had promised map packs or any add on to battlefield 3 you'd have a case.
By the way, the rocket science, math comment, grow up.

How cute, the little troll doesn't know how to read the post its responding to.
As I said, Sony couldn't promise jack squat without already talking to EA about it all. EA actually announced the deal along with Sony during the last E3 conference.

People were promised content that wasnt given to them. How old it is is irrelevant. If they gave EA their money, they are entitled to the content that was promised to them. People cant just let corporations step on everyone and screw people over. They need to understand that we arent just mindless ATM machines, and that we deserve respect.

@shadowgrab Even if it was Sony's mistake (which I doubt), EA should have then come out and denied it instead of waiting until after the game was out.
The lack of any denial makes it obvious that they were fully planning to include 1943, but for whatever reason, they were not able to. And then they tried to sweep it under the rug and hope no one would notice.

Yes, because that was never actually about the lack of BF1943. If you read a month before BF3 even came out without 1943, you'll see that they had already announced early DLC for PS3. It just became their scapegoat when they failed on the 1943 part.
